I have seen Dana posting more announcements in the forums for new Kalmbach Media products.
.
This is great. I hope they try to direct more people here to see the announcements and we get some new blood in the forum discussions.

Living the dream.
I think it's primarily meant to direct the folks who already participate on the forum to the additional services available to them - e.g. MR magazine, Video Plus, Kalmbach media, etc. But...that's just my opinion.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
I honestly don’t really like Kalmbach posting those things on the forum, I kind of think I clutters up the forum, but that is just my opinion and as Kalmbach hosts this forums they are free to do whatever they want. The thing is that for me they are kind of old news as I often check the MR home page to see what new articles and such are there, so by the time I see Dana’s posts they really don’t cause be to do anything. Just my !

I model my railroad and you model yours! I model my way and you model yours!
To some extent they are preaching to the choir.

Yep, and afterall it's nearly a free lunch, so advertising is fair game. They gotta pay the bills y'know. Clutter is part of the dealeo.

I thought it was a good idea. And they're not selling anything. Just presenting some layout plans for smaller layouts.

I'm a fan of MRVP. They put this show on for free. Eric and Steve are the only ones that contribute to the forum. I would like to hear more from Cody, but if he posted here, why would I subscribe to listen to Cody's workshop?
I wouldn't call it clutter either. If you are going to take that position then the ads on the right and top are clutter too. These days if you click on a youtube video or your local news station, you have an advertisement video shoved down your throat. That is an intrusion

Oh wait! He is the Senior Editor of Model Railroader magazine.
I think that he is entitled to post, wouldn't ya say?

Oh, yes, he most definately is entitled to post this kind of thing, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it... still I can put up with it and it’s fine. I son’t honestly see it as I usually look for threads on the recent post page, not the general discussion page.
Dana and the rest do a good job of keeping the clutter effect very limited.
It's a good reminder for subscribers to read their magazine. Since I've gone to the e-edition, it arrives and sits on my iPad and I may get several months behind, depending on life. That never happened with the paper version.
I suspect that MR also hopes some of those using the forum who aren't subscibers will sign up. That helps keep the forums online for free, besides funding things more generally. This is important in a media market that is generally shrinking. I want MR to stay vibrant and useful.

I know I'm in MR's house and they make the rules. I find it annoying when I'm on my way to one of the forum pages and, a blurb pops up, locking up the page like someone poking a stick into the spokes. With total disregard for whatever it is about, I eliminate it and, continue on my way. The blurbs surrounding this feature of the page are no problem. Those other things are like someone trying to cut in front of you at the DMV-or post office.
mlehman I want MR to stay vibrant and useful.
Me too! If a blurb here or there, or something else directs more people to this forum, or the magazine, I am all for it.
