What are those odds? I eat those cones with no ice cream. I think the price sticker for those cones was still on the Joy Cone box?

PC101

You should get them by Saturday. Let me know.

Got them!  Thanks Bunches!  Also on a side note. I am the Accountant for Joy Cone, so when I opened the envelope and saw the Joy Cone box I was floored! Thanks again!

Ok, 4 (four) long stanchions #10426 will be going out tomorrow taped on to and between two pieces of cearal box cardboard in a white envelope from 17401. Thanks for making me smile, I needed that.

Yes. I guess you can put your adderss in my ''friends'' box, try that. I'll foot the stamp and sent you 4.

There for a minute I though you may have been using one of those ''free'' rulers from Harbor Fright and 1 inch is not really 1 inch, it's 3/4'' so your 12'' ruler is only 9'' long. You know how it's getting, they are cutting back on everything.

It was fun helping you figure this out.

I have two of those one still new in the box and the stanchions are the same as PC101 has stated Maybe the OP should check the size again Something is not correct

Problem is I am brain dead!  It is not 1" it is just over 3/4" for them... Sorry for running you guys around in circles...  Anybody have 4 spares?

This is what I have for my Athearn #4305, PRR #8704, BLUE BOX FAIRBANKS-MORSE H24-66 TRAIN MASTER. (cost $24.20). My wife would say ''They saw you coming.'' Of course, she was not my wife back then. This model has the metal truck sideframes.

In the bag a total of 28 #10426 long stanchions .768'' from the bottom bend to the center of the hand rail, for the sides. There are only 11 holes on each side of the loco. for a total of 22 holes. That leaves 6 long stanchion left over.

With the long stanchion in it's hole on the left or right side, it give you appox. a scale 3' 6'' HO from the hand rail to the deck/walkway.

In the bag a total of 12 #10424 short stanchions .482'' from the bottom bend to the center of the hand rail, for the #1 or F-end and #2 or non F-endConfused. There are only 4 holes on each end for these stanchions. That leaves 4 short stanchions left over.

With the short stanchion in it's hole on the #1 or F or #2 or non F end, it gives you appox. a scale 3' HO from the hand rail to the deck/walkway.

Now using your 1'' length from hand rail to bottom bend of stanchion, that give me a stanchion appox. 7' 3'' HO. That gives me 4' 9'' HO from deck/walkway to hand rail.

I'm sorry but this is all I have. I must be missing something.

PC101

Edit: The tan Athearn parts bag in the box is marked #75114-6.

Edit: I wonder if a much newer/current model has a different, longer 1'' stanchion and has mounting holes down lower on the side of the loco.?

Ok, I'll recheck the Athearn BB FM H24-66 Train Master and get back here later tonight. Looking at the instructions, it shows (STANCHION, TM LONG #10426) and the model and the parts in the bag.

This model has never been assembled.

SAM V. 1 inch, is that how long (OAL) from bend at bottom to sanchion hole, I think that is what you are saying or the HO Scale hole diameter, or the HO Scale diameter of the sanchion? What Athearn BB model? I'm looking but even the Train Masters are only 3/4'' from bend end to top end and they go deep down on the frame/body to the mounting hole.

I'd think the top of the handrails are a certain/standard height from the top down to the walkway/deck.

PC101 from Central Pa.

Oh and THANK YOU, while rooting I found two AWOL locos. Walthers EMD SW-1 PRR #5987 and PRR #5993 (NIB).

Yes 1" from where it goes into the model to the railing wire. This is a trainmaster BB model

I found one set on a rack at my LHS some years ago.  They were either old or marked way down, so I bought them and took them home.  I figured I might be able to adapt them.

They were apparently designed for old BB GP9s like the one I had gutted and added Kadees to, and now ran as a sound dummy.  They were a bit thick, but since the original engine had come with no rails, as I suspect they all did, they made a big improvement for very little money or work.

I just saw a few we I searched EBay, though they were a bit expensive (like $20+) for some reason and I don’t think they were one inch. Nonetheless it’s worth a look. Maybe you LHS can order them for you from somewhere.

If any of you would have 4 extra of these I would be very appreciative if I could purchase them from you. Missing 4 don't ask me how...

Sam, if you send me a PM and let me know which height stanchions are required, and give me an address to which I can mail them, you can have 'em.

EDIT:  I missed the 1" in the thread's title. Whistling....and....despite having at least a hundred Athearn handrail stanchions, I am embarrassed to say that none of them are the length which you require. Bang Head

I make my own Athearn handrails and sanctions from Tichy .02” Phosphor Bronze Wire.

A pair of small round nose pliers or regular long nose around a straight pin to make the loop for the .02” for the handrail then the measured length to the floor.  It gets pretty old if you’re making a bunch but they look better than the Athearns when you’re done.

A touch of solder keeps them in place forever.
