Thanks to you both for that information. I am alwys fascinated by Erie, EL and DL&W history, as I grew up along the Erie-EL Delaware Division main line.
They didn't. The SD40 was a CNJ unit damaged in an EL wreck. They paid the CNJ for the unit and were going to rebuild it. They never did.
I did not know that the EL even had SD-40's, not to say that they didn't have them. I do know (as you probably also know), that the SD-45's were numbered in the 3600 series. Oftentimes, when I see either a photo or a video of an EL locomotive that all I can see is the road number and no other identifying features, I can tell by that number what it is. I also have books on the EL and I don't recall seeing any SD-40's. Maybe that was a rare item on their roster.
Has anyone modeled the EL SD40 #3000. This was the locomotive that was wrecked on the EL and was to be rebuilt as SD40 #3000 and never was rebuilt. Gary
