It's not that urgent that I feel like calling them at this point. I will, if the shipping seems to take an abnormally long time.
They have an ebay store now, and the items they sell there, they ship as economy shipping, about 10 day shipping, which is probably USPS Parcel select.
I just wish they would give a tracking number, or at least give an estimated shipping time, like most sellers do!

I had a friend ask me to buy EVERYTHING I could find for CENTRAL OF GEORGIA, SEABOARD, and FLORIDA EAST COAST. I found NOTHING!

Kevin

For what it's worth, Nick Molo has offered Moloco FGE boxcars in CofG, Seaboard Airline SAL, Southern and ACL.  I see the Central of Georgia or now sold out on the website but can be found on eBay and some vendors who sell Moloco may have them in stock.  I bought the COfG and its a very accurate copy of the real thing.

They aren't cheap but they are very nice.

Hello All,

Have you tried calling them to ask?

From their website...

FREE SHIPPING* on all orders over $99 (in continental U.S.)

Hope this helps.

Back to the OP's original question........short and not so sweet answer is it is a "crap shoot".   I've waited ten days or so from date of sale to delivery on some occasions, and 5 days on others (from Caboose Hobbies).  I remember this because I was in real need of the items, and of course that is the shipment that took the longest.

Whether the business is big or small, there are just too many variables to say how long a specific order will take.  If you see what you want, the price is right, hit the "submit order" button and hope for the best.

ENJOY  !

my idea of hoping to find Eastern road stuff unsold in the West like I find Western road stuff around here did not pan out

.

That's the truth.

.

When I did my coast-to-coast hobby shop tour I was so surprised by the lack of much unsold stuff for eastern lines. I had a friend ask me to buy EVERYTHING I could find for CENTRAL OF GEORGIA, SEABOARD, and FLORIDA EAST COAST. I found NOTHING!

That's not totally true. It is a new name in a new location, but the current owner purchased the assets of the original Caboose Hobbies, so it is a continuation of the old company.

From what I understand, there weren't much assets left as the original Caboose Hobbies owned by Duane Miller sold his inventory down to the bone after he lost the lease on the building.  I remember looking for some items and was told pickens were slim.

I realize the new owner is trying to ride on the coat tails of Caboose Hobbies and the memories of the customers, and is weaving a story of being a continuation, but the reality is clearly this is this is a new shop, new owner, running it his way.

I don't harbor any ill will towards the new shop, but just like any new hobby shop, it has to earn it's customer base and good will on it's own merrits.  The nostalgia thing only goes so far really.

I checked the online stock a number of times during the first year of operation and prices on most items I was interested in were at or near MSRP.  The real Caboose Hobbies of yor had prices closer to what MB Klein, or a just a bit more.  Now perhaps this new shop Caboose had a plan to charge near/at MSRP prices for the first year or two or three, and then eventually start discounting.  If so I am not aware of those plans and stopped checking after some months.  My wife has a saying, you start as you mean to go on, so I assume that is the pricing and the way the shop was being run.

Where I live, east coast, it is generally not worth it for me to pay shipping from out west as well.  There is no special incentive for me to shop online at Caboose when I can find items closer and at better prices and more likely to be in stock.  And I am into D&RGW and SP as well.

Caboose Hobbies of the past, OTOH, with it's cheaper prices and better selection of western rolling stock AND brass selection, it really was special in it's own right and I did business with them over the years due to this.  The new shop is not the same shop, nothing special to me.  Nostalgia isn't enough to make me a customer.

BTW, I've always wondered if this shop is supposed to be the continuation of same shop, why didn't it get the same name?  That struck me as odd from the start.

An interesting place to visit, nearly the size of the sort of LHS, except all trains. And I did not pay MSRP for the Atlas freight car I bought (my idea of hoping to find Eastern road stuff unsold in the West like I find Western road stuff around here did not pan out - except for one loan CNJ car - well, they had 4 of them, but all the same number).

Does anybody know what shipping service the Caboose Hobbies in Denver, CO uses for online orders,

Hello. The shop named Caboose Hobbies closed down a couple years ago.  I assume you are referring to the shop named Caboose.  Different shop name and a completely different shop in a different location.

Caboose is a shop which opened to fill the void left when Caboose Hobbies closed, and has a different proprieter.

I used to do business with Caboose Hobbies, but haven't found a need to order from Caboose.  The difference to me is night and day, and the prices of the new shop  are considerably higher.  After Caboose opened I thought I see if they had something I needed on several occasions but out of stock.  I also noticed prices where at or near MSRP.   No thanks.

I stopped checking after a while and have other shops who tend to actually have what I need and at better prices.

RIP Caboose Hobbies

You are right, its Caboose now. First time I am dealing with them. Their website address is caboosehobbies so I thought that was their name.

Most online businesses generally don't indicate which shipper they use.  It's probably fair to say though that most use USPS then UPS then FedEx.

I ordered some shoes from Adidas recently and they came FedEx.  The Nikes' I've ordered in the past always came UPS.  So, unless the vendor specifiies, it's anyone's guess.

I don't know what the shipping price is, other than its free if you spend $100 or more. But they don't mention what shipping company & -type they use.

I did indeed place an order there a couple days ago (over $100, so the shipping was free). On my account it says the item has been shipped, but there was no confirmation email, and no tracking # provided so far.

So I have no idea when I can except my order to arrive. I guess i just have to be patient :).

(btw, I am not complaining, they seem to be great people to deal with)

I put some track in "my shopping cart" to see what they said about shipping and they don't calculate a shipping price until you submit a credit card and click order

That's unusual, in fact unique in my experience, to place an order and not know what shipping would be.   Maybe there is one more confirmation page that shows it before you finalize the order.

Therefore I guess UPS because it's the most convient for the seller and buyer to track and 4 days to the east coast.  USPS maybe another day.

Caboose Hobbies shipping?
Posted by nwsisu on Friday, August 9, 2019 8:17 PM

Does anybody know what shipping service the Caboose Hobbies in Denver, CO uses for online orders, and how long it typically takes to receive the items (of course it varies depending on your location)?

Just looking for some general ideas so I would know what to expect. Thanks!
