I woud like to use two SD40-2 on my layout togeher on the lead end, one a standard nose and another a snoot nose. I have the Kato SD40-2 now. I really dont like the Kato version of the snoot nose, doesnt look right. Found an Intermountain snoot nose I like. How well would an Intermountain run with a Kato? My layout is DC.
All I have heard Corsair is alike brand locomotives run well together in DC. Not a big enough difference in speed to make a difference.
Different manufacturers, one is most always going to be slower. If it isn't that far off, it isn't that big of a deal. One will just spin a little and one will just slip a little.
They say with different brand locomotives to try two at a time to see which ones have a more compatible speed to run together.
The bright side is I think you're track will get really clean with those locomotives spinning and slipping their wheels slightly against the rail.
The downside, if the speeds are too far apart the faster one could possibly overwork pulling the slower one.
These are things I have gathered on the subject over the years.
