Talk about scratch built. Wow if that is your thing lego is it. The layouts attract huge crowds, at GATS there was a large crowd around the layout. At the SD train museum, LEGO has an incredible layout with skyscrapers, bridges, ocean, euro train station, and more. It looked great, but everything had to be built. That is a lot of legos, Theirs had at best guess about 300,000 blocks according to the train man there. At Lego land they have something like 7 million blocks or more for their setups. I will have to check on that number as it might be higher.

Bottom line, looks great, a lot of work and money.

Every train show that I have been to that had a Lego layout the kids just mobed it.
I was at a show with a G scale layout and it attracted a lot of kids.
Lego, Thomas or wooden trains any thing that will attract to trains is a plus.

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

Our real interest is HO scale, but the kids have some lego trains and enjoy them a lot. At a GATS show last year there was a decent size display layout and it was attracting a lot of interest from the kids. The problem I find is that the really good looking Lego train models are really expensive and too hard for my kids to make. Having said that, an adult built Lego layout is an impressive thing to see.

What are your thought concerning lego trains? Like, dislike, pros, cons? more scenery or less scenery? Town, castle, pirate or what? thanks, stephen

Just think it could be worse.
