Well my new year's resolution then, I guess, is to spend muc less time on the computer, and much more time working on the layout. In this spirit I have started building 10 car kits recently and tweaking out my track plan. I'm retired and have all the time in the world (until I die at least) to work on the layout. So I'd better hop to it.

Time's a wastin'!

Ah well, at least it's cheaper[:)][:)]

Plus you can work in all scales at the same time.[:D][:D]

Enjoy

Like Yogi said, "It's like deju vu, all over again."

I wonder if someone will coin a new term for modern "armchair model railroders" like us, maybe "virtual model railroaders". Nah, that's probably already used for those guys who have the railroad simulator games.

Here it is Jan 4th, and I'm not doing too good about sticking to my New Year's resolutions.

Regards

Ed

I mentally added up the time I spend on the forum trying to stay on top of the piles of posts that are generated every few hours and now I feel ashamed that I am all talk and no action.

My work bench sees me at least a few minutes every day. And once a month or more I visit a friend and we run trains. I come home with a armful of rolling stock that needs various work to perform better. I joyfully add to the pile of kits that need to be built for no reason and plot ways to finance the soul to the devil in exchange for that crown jewel that only will be availible 3 days of the entire year.

I would have to say around 10 hours or so per week. I would like to spend more time, but being a Scoutleader, dad, husband, and being on the fire dept. Aux takes up a fair chunk of time.

My time cards usually show about 30 hours per week. Most of this is modeling with about 4-5 hours of run time. For the first 6 months of layout building, it wasn't unusual to have 40 hours with some overtime.

Yes, I am retired. [:D]

It's been my "job" for the last three weeks over Christmas. Now I'm back to my real job the trains take a back seat during the week, however, the weekends are a different matter!!!

I bust butt about 20-25 hours a week sometimes. But I do still have a life during the day. I am a late nighter. I go to bed usually by 3am but as late as 5am and get up by 9 am. So I just do not have a sleep life. LOL

It's tough to find the time now that i'm semi retired what with the work that I pick up and the ever growing honey do list.I do have a 3 nights a week part time job that includes medical and retirement investment benefits that affords me a lot of time to work on models on the job.I think that i have almost the same amoumt of tools there as i have in my train room.I have doubles of most tools so i don't have to haul them back and forth. The other times are evenings instead of watching TV

Hey 10-15 here may be a little more this time of year as the only yard work to be done is snow shovelling. In the spring/summers 5 hours is more likely as I do enjoy gardening but my wife and I both volinteer at our local railway museum. TB

Any amout of time is golden. Most of my "model time" is reading magazines and studying the technique and art of the hobby.

Sometimes I do very little work on anything for a few weeks, followed by long jags of modeling activity, but I'd say it averages out to about 10 hours a week.

Hmmm thats a good question.........

I have to split my time between college, chaseing women, rideing my motorcycle, working at the railroad museum and working on my fairmont motorcar. As well as department activitys. So my railroad sometimes plays 5th fiddle.[:I] And as you may tell myhobby dollar is often split . Although I guess I have the advantage to passing my layout every day though, so its never far out of my mind.

My basement is finished and we have a full size door to the back yard........ so when I let the dogs in and out I usally fiddle with it while they are doing thier thing. I also usally fiddle with it after my wieght lifting, since my wieghts are in the other room.

In the winter I obviously spend alot more time on the trains because the motorcycle, train museum and speeder arnt usable and the live steam engine is inside, as the tracks are burried. So I average, ehh may be 2-3 hours a night, every day.

I've been spend 3-4 hours a night working on the layout design. Last weekend I cleared the garage--the first step to clearing a spot in the basement. I've been running my son's train with him an hour or so a night since Christmas.
