HO ALCo C424/C425 models
Posted by NS6770fan on Saturday, June 22, 2019 4:54 PM

I am currently on the market for an HO scale ALCo C424 or C425. These locos are some of my favorite, but I have yet to find a model of one that I am happy with. I like Atlas as a company, but I have not been able to find either type recently. I am looking for either Pennsy, Ernie Lack, Morristown and Erie, or DL&W. I wouldn’t mind picking one up in brass, but I have yet to find one in those roadnames. Does anyone have suggestion? My budget is about $300. It doesnt have to come with DCC installed, but does anyone know where I can look to find one? I already checked out MB Klein and Brasstrains without luck.

      NS6770fan,

Suggest you check www.trainworld.com .  Their website shows they have Atlas Gold Ph2, C424s  as Morristown & Erie nos. 18, and 19 available for backorder with DCC and sound for $199.99.  Stock numbers are 10003295 for M&E 18, and 10003296 for M&E 19.

Here's an orphaned Atlas C-425 with a custom CNR paint job...

...even though Canadian National never owned C-425s.  They did have lots of C-424s though.

The 3250 was my son's, but his interest in trains was short-lived.  It has less than an hour's running time on it, and is in good condition, including its original box.

Atlas units via the bay, or at train shows nearby if applicable.

Also, don't forget about Bowser Alco Century units..... lots of those available second hand, or even NOS (New, Old Stock.) in more than a few places.

My Grandpa got three Spokane, Portland, and Seattle C425s last summer from Atlas, so they must have done a run about then. Contact your LHS to see if they can get you one, or look on the internet (i.e. EBay!). According to their website they have M&E and EL in a sort of Erie patch out on their website.

Also check Bowser, they have done quite a few runs of ALCo stuff! They list a C430 and some six axle stuff on their website.

Regards, Isaac
