I know some of you use Future floor finish as a gloss coat for decal application. It seems easy, you can brush it on.
My question is, can dulcoat (Testors) still be used over Future? If not, what do you use to dull the finish?

I do not use Future very often, but yes, Testors #1260 Dollcote will go over Future just fine.

Thanks Kevin, I wanted to find out before I used the Future. I've never tried before, but the only gloss cloat I have is in a spray can, and I didn't want to paint the whole car, just the cab, where the decals are going.
It's my caboose project. After the decals are done, I'm going to dull coat it, and fade the MILW orange to "age" it a few years.
I guess this will be a short thread!

As others have stated...yes, Testors dullcoat can be applied over Future/Pledge/Klear.
In addition to using Pledge for decal application, I also cover the whole car with it. Why? I mainly use acrylics for painting rolling stock. Acrylic paints, once dry, are porous. Pledge, being self leveling, fills all those little tiny crevices and creates a smooth/flat/level surface. This smooth/flat/level surface allows the dullcoat (lacquer) to lie flat, eliminating light reflection off that multiple porous surface, giving that "dull" appearance. I know, sounds strange, but I tried this and believe my final application of dullcoat looks better with the Pledge underneath.

Find a practice piece, or even some plastic spoons to experiment on. Oh, and Pledge (27 oz bottle for less than $10) is a lot cheaper for in-between layers than testors.

Definitely use the Future/Pledge on a $1.00 bargain bin test model first.
The first time I used it, it ran and ruined the finish. Do not put it on too thick, a very thin layer will do what you need.

OOOPS! I just checked, it's not Floquil, it's Polyscale acrylic.
If an airbrush is used to apply the Future, what cleaning agent is used to clean the airbrush when complete?
I use a metal Paasche Model H airbrush for this.
I clean it with automotive brake cleaner from the automotive section of my local big-box retailer.
Brake cleaner makes airbrush cleaning go real fast, but use it outside only, and only on the metal parts.
I just did some "test" painting, using a brush to put on the gloss, and I cleaned the brush with lacquer thinner. Seemes to work good.
The back of the bottle of Future ( actually Pledge Floor Gloss) says to use amonia and water, so you could probably also run Windex, or similar amonia product throught the gun to clean it.
I know for sure lacquer thinner works with acrylics as well as solvent based paints.
Test painting using the Pledge, over acrylic paint turned out good. No running of the acrylic paint (Poly Scale).
On to using it on my caboose project.

That is great news. The caboose project looks amazing. You really did an outstanding job on that model.
I checked out your pics in WPF, the caboose and decals look good. Now you have a "cost effective alternative" to applying decals and sealing paint and weathering.

Terry, yes, I'm happy with the Future, and I only used i coat. I did do some testing on a piece of styrene with the same MILW Polyscale paint, just to see.
