It looks like homasote which is a pressed cardboard building material that can be purchased in sheets at most home improvement centers.

The NMRA web site has alot of ideas also layout tours in all scales.Most everyone who replies who has a link posted at the bottom will allmost certainly take you to some pics.Good Luck.Terry.
