I just look at my Model Railroader Magazine (Feb-05) that just came in a couple a days ago and saw the Stewart add Fergmiester was writing about. It's on page 94 and it's 5.95 per pack, but it's under the name Virnex industries 608-254-4382. I thinking of ordering some also for my Cab forward and Big Boy.

Personally, I'd forget the traction tires and just run the puppy. Mine came off about a month after I bought it, it's still a very smooth and powerful runner, and I've got some stretches of 2.4% grades on my layout. I haven't noticed much drop in the pulling power, and no, the grooves in the tired-wheels are so shallow that there's hardly any possibility of derailments. The Allegheny is a honey of a locomotive, tires or not. Don't let it just sit in the case (or box) because your tires came off. Hook up some hoppers and RUN the thing!

Years ago, before I knew where to purchase replacement traction tires, I used dental rubber bands as replacements. They come in a variety of sizes and your family orthodontist might be interested in knowing whether or not they will work in that service. I doesn't cost anything to ask.

The last time I ran my Allegheny one of the tires came loose. I was able to put it back on the wheel but I didn't run it much after that. If you remove the tires completely does that empty groove in the drivers cause any tracking or derailment problems?

I too, now run my Allegheny without tires on level track.

I'm down to one. I had one that would continually slip off, so I cut it loose. It still
pulls great with only the remaining tire. When it starts slipping off,
it will be removed as well. And I probably won't replace them. Good luck, Dave

Stewart sells Traction tires all sizes and shapes. However in order for these to work on your Allegheny they have to be put on really tight are the wheel will wobble. Personally I gave up on my Allegheny and ran it without. I've lost about 30% traction but can still haul a fair load.

Does anyone know where I can get replacement traction tires for Rivarrosi Alleghney 2666 HO engine? Bought new, years ago. Original tires did not last long enough for the break-in runs. Sure would like to run it on the tracks again.
