The Westcott book is very good and very clear but some of it reprints material from MR of the very early 1950s. I would go with the newer Andy Sperandeo wiring book from Kalmbach. For example, Westcott pretty much assumes one central control location because that was the primary choice back around 1955. Sperandeo includes info on memory and other walk around throttles.

It is worth noting that there are a lot of products out there involving signaling and detection circuits that can make cab control more fun that were unknown to Westcott when he wrote his book.

Authored by the late Lynn Wescott, 'How To Wire Your Model Railroad' . It has been published by Kalmbach for decades, but might not be in their current offerings. This is the best book on the subject I have ever seen. Check eBay or place a 'wanted' posting right here on the forum. Perhaps someone has one to sell.

Atlas publishes "The complete Atlas Wiring Book" which gives a very good outline of the proper DC wiring. It touts Atlas products of course, but it is comprehensive with lots of illustrations. It should be available at your LHS. If not you can order it directly from Atlas. I have found it helpful. In addition, the book shows alternate methods for DCC should you ever need them.
Hope this helps.

Kalmbach has a very good soft cover book on wiring, and includes chapter on cab control wiring.

I am starting to plan the wireing for my layout. I am not using DCC. What I am looking for is recogmendations for a good book covering wiring a cab control system using dpdt switches. Thank you in advance.
