They get hid under the fuel tank. The exploded drawings don't necessarily show all of the screws and how it goes together.
Glad you discovered your problem.

First, I found out you have to pull to 2 front handrails out of the nose for the cab to come off. In doing so, I found a piece of plastic in the cab that was causing the rattle. I stopped at that point because my issue was corrected. I suspect there are 2 screws under the speaker cover/fuel tank as suggested but did not get that far. It should be noted the only screws shown down there on the exploded drawing are the 2 that hold on the fuel tank. I also think there are 2 tabs by the rear truck since there were 2 under the cab. I did find the size of the srew that we missing from the front coupling as a #1-72 x 1/4" which my LHS had in stock.
Thanks all!
I agree with Mike, my only Bachmann locomotive has it’s screws hidden under the fuel tank. Note it is a very different 70 tonner, but manufacturers usually do similar things on most of their locomotives. It is also very common to have to remove the couplers, often the coupler screws hold the shell on too.

I model my railroad and you model yours! I model my way and you model yours!
Remove the fuel tank, if you have sound, be careful of the speaker, and see if there are 2 screws visible. Sometimes they hide them under the tank.
I believe the couplers have to come off, as well.
According to the diagram that can be found below, the coupler screw head is on the outside.
Honestly, I don't find those diagrams particularly helpful. There are 2 screws 104B9 in the diagram that might be holding it on.

Anyone know how to remove the shell? I removed the 2 screws under the nose. The cabinn and nose are loose but won't come off. Looks like the 2 front step handrails are preventing the removal but I won't to make sure before I loosen them. I found the screw for the front coupler is missing and I also hear something small rattling around in the shell and I'm hoping its that screw. SO, if its not, anyonw aso know what size screw that is?
Thanks,
Dave
