Treble-O-Trains 0-8-0s conversion to electric (New Tenders planned out) progress being made
Posted by Safety Valve on Saturday, April 20, 2019 4:05 PM

Hi all, I've been working on a New Project recently, I have been customizing a pair of Lone Star Treble-O-Trains 0-8-0s to look like Donald and Douglas, I will be building new tenders for them using scratch built tender shells on Kato 11-105's with new tender draw bars and rapido couplers, here is what we have so far, I have yet to get reproduction rivits from the redline shop which I will epoxie in. I got the pair of 0-8-0s for $54 with shipping included, it will definalty be a nice budget build.

Base removed

we drilled and removed the bases of both 0-8-0s, I transplanted the black wheels onto the black base and the red wheels onto the red base, I will have to replace some parts on the black based 0-8-0

Painting the Red Base and wheels

We Painted the Lone Star 0-8-0 base in such a way that the next person who restores this could possibly restore it to original condition, the paint in the rattle can clumped up and very little paint came out due the cold weather we have had so this is the result of that, it was a lot more then I was expecting... I do plan to get more primer

Drilling out the Rear coupling

we have drilled out the 0-8-0s couplers so we can replace them with tender to engine couplings, I plan to build a new pair of tenders from Kato 11-105 chassis as the base, and the New Plastic tender shells will be incorperated into the model will be based on the Lionel 0-8-0s  that Lionel have been making for the past decade or so, new Rapido couplings will be added to the front of the model so they can double head a train if I so wish Smile

The wheels on the 0-8-0s are plastic, which is what I've been after

This is my first kitbashing project on the forum and I am really excited to take you guys and gals along with the ride. Big Smile

The Person helping me in the camera photographs is a very good friend of mine, it is not me... Wink
