Mike you can Google "shapeways plastic" and you will find some tutorials on their various types of plastic models. I am considereing Shapeways for the sheaves on my vertical lift towers.
This is my first one, Rich, I'll find out! I asked the seller, and he said the normal proceedure for painting any model.
There is a slight texture to the tank, so I'll probably do some sanding first, but since I'm just painting this a gray, to match many of the prototypes I see, I shouldn't have to do too much.
Now if I was going to do a chrome finish, it would take more sanding and filling.
Mike, are the Shapeways products difficult to paint?
I think they look great. Prices sure have changed from a 3 years ago, or more, when I started looking for them.
I used to be amazed at the models that guys have built of these trucks and displayed on the 1:87 web site.
I think I'm going to leave the wheels as they are. As I said earlier, I won't be "playing trucks", and everything else used in scenes is a static display anyway. The only thing that moves on most of our lay outs is the trains.
No special prep for painting, unless you want the chrome finish, then it's filling and sanding.

Everything else out there, such as off Ebay, is too "European-ish" for me. Stuff you don't see on the roads here.
Maybe now that I spent over $40., the market will suddenly get flooed with them. It always seems to work that way.
Oh, and yea, it's a tight fit in the Drive-In, but I pull in length wise, take up about 6 or 7 stalls,

Wow ... it would be positively blinding to drive by one of those if it was factory fresh. And I thought milk trucks were bad.
But that does raise once again the fact that one of the hardest things to capture on a model is a realistic and plausible high gloss finish whether it is vehicles or rolling stock. There is something that just looks wrong on a high gloss model even though the prototype "real world" has plenty of examples of high gloss finishes out there.

No it won't! I'm not going to finish mine like that either, mine will be a gray color, like most cement powder dry bulks are.
Generally, most chromed or stainless trailers like the prototype are used in food grade bulk, like sugars, flour, etc., although they are usually the bigger style tank.
Mine will be the "working man's" truck, hauling cement powder from my tans loading yard from rail cars to points beyond.

Easy for you to say, willy6, but how about some photos? Before the modifications and after would be nice, and even though it's too modern for my layout, I'd be interested in seeing it, as I'm sure would others.

I just received one of these in the mail. It looks great. My plan is to paint it flat gray. Maybe paint the landing gear black. The wheels are molded on to the trailer. I going to install Herpa truck wheels and tires on it. I'm going to cut the wheels off, then drill a .03" (Herpa axle OD) hole through the .09" molded axle and add the wheels and tires. I think will look great and some tail light and mud flap decals.
