Hi,
Does anyone know if any N scale locos for the Portland & Western have been produced. Ive seen several in H0 scale, but only an SD9 in N scale.
Thanks
The great thing about the Portland and Western is that they paint their locos in the Genesee and Wyoming scheme, so if you can’t find anthing in Portland and Western, you could easily get any G&W loco, remove the logo, lettering, numbers, etc, and redecal it.
Regards, Isaac
I model my railroad and you model yours! I model my way and you model yours!
Did some internet searching and the SD9 is the only n scale loco in Portland and western, but I found and micro trains sw1500, which was unlettered in the Genesee and Wyoming livery, so you could add decals to make it a Portland and Western loco. Also found an Atlas MP15 and GP38, plus an Intermountain SD40-2. None are in Portland and Western but if you rele them they could be Portland and Western locos (If Portland and Western has SW1500s, MP15s, GP38s, SD40-2s, etc).
If all else fails you could always custom paint...
Thanks for the replies.
I saw a recent Portland and Western video on youtube, and it had a few old SP loco's which had had their railroad names and numbers roughly patched out, but the paint scheme left in place, so I could always do that as well.
Yes, that is a very interesting prototype to model. Short lines rarely bother to repaint locos. Were I’m from the Central Washington railway, the local short line continues to use and ex ATSF loco in very faded paint. I have also seen a video of a Genesee and Wyoming line somewhere in the east which just added G&W logos to an loco but didn’t repaint it. Again lokk and see if the Portland and western did that!
If you do decide to repaint a few, here's a roster list from rrpicturearchives. Lots of possiblilities!

I like the patched look. Or is it I'm too lazy to repaint everything?

PNWR 3602 looks like a good one to model, an ex-SP rebuilt (I think to SD40 specs?) SD45, flared radiators included. Still in SP with G&W logos over the SP paint. Now we just need an N scale SD45 in SP...
