Earlier today, I posted a thread about where I should sell train stuff, since ebay is too expensive. I was getting some helpful answers, and then when I went back to check it, it was gone from both the "your discussions" panel under my name AND the general discussion forum! I read up on the forum rules, and I don't see any rule that I broke. I'm not advertising my business, and I use the money from selling train junk to buy better stuff. Is there some rule I'm missing here? Or is there a MRR technology glitch? I kinda want that thread... there was some useful information in there.
I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.
I saw the rule you broke. Very obvious.
Read MR Forum Rules.
Just Google buying and selling model trains on the Internet. Do some research.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Check you PM, maybe you have a message from those that rule. It might explain specifics.
We've all exchanged links on here, and the Groups.io link has been shared many times.
But effidently, a line was crossed.

When I first joined that used to happen. I don't think that happens anymore, unless there is a major transgression that results in a "time out".
I didn't get an email, pm, or anything. richg1998, I did read the forum rules, and I didn't find any line that I crossed. What did you find? The only thing that comes close is where it says:
"No selling or advertising. That means no links or references of any kind to items or services for sale or auction. No promoting events, fund-raisers, contests, websites, Facebook groups, or other Forums, either."
No one gave links to anything for sale or promoted anybody. People have posted direct links to ebay listings on threads before without problem. This whole thing seems rather odd.
Did I break a rule?".
Yes.
BNSF UP and others modelerI read up on the forum rules, and I don't see any rule that I broke.
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
No matter how hard I try to plead (argue?) innocence, I'm not going to win this. I find it very frustrating, however, that my thread got deleted and yet there are threads that have links to ebay listings (which IS a violation of forum rules) that don't get touched. So much for asking for help...
BNSF UP, I never read your deleated post. How about if you start a new post/subject and choose different wording then was in your deleated post?

Ok, maybe not then. I hate to be the one to have made a grown man cry.
Perhaps I can help in the absence of a semi-formal PM that our moderators at one time sent to people by way of explaining an act of theirs that countered something a member had done:
The site owners have strict policies about what is permitted and what is not permitted. Advertising one's wares that are for sale, even obliquely (Where else but eBay can I sell my brand new, in the box, never run Athearn X with decoder at a great price?") is forbidden because it opens the proverbial can of worms. Or becomes the thin edge of the wedge.
I don't recall the exact wording of your original message. My example in parentheses above is an example of something fairly egregious, you'll agree, but I'm not suggesting it amounts to what you posted. I'm guessing what you posted was that thin edge problem.
I'll just ask the question again here. Ebay fees are too much for me. Where else can I sell used train junk thats not craigslist or offerup? I'm thinking groups.io. Thats all I said. Maybe my other thread got deleted because of someone elses suggestions?
BNSF UP and others modelerWhere else can I sell
The above five words should explain the Why's........could not be any plainer WHY.......

The Chief Moderator, "Vinnie" the man, AKA, Mr.Steven Otte, will be in the office shortly, I'm sure he'll enlighten all of us as to the reason for the deletion, and then this thread will more than likely be locked.
Gidday Mr.BNSF UP and others modeler, I certainly don’t think you were intentionally breaking Forum Rules, the same as I don’t think the Moderator was deliberately “gunning” for you. Life is unfair, and frustrating, as a young law-abiding chap, I’m hopeful that the following hasn’t happened/won’t happen to you, but look at this situation similarly as to be pulled over by the Highway Patrol for speeding, not long after someone else passed you, like you’re standing still! As Rich said, search Google for other avenues, I’m sure you will have success. Good Luck and Have Fun. Cheers, the Bear.
One day in traffic court, about four decades ago, I watched as a defendant charged with speeding made that argument to the judge. The judge replied with a simple question, "have you ever gone fishing", to which the defendant replied "yes", with a puzzled look. The judge then replied "did you catch all the fish?".
True story, and I was found "not guilty" of my speeding ticket later than morning. That is a somewhat longer story........

Simple solution - email Steve Otte and politely ask what in your thread made it subject to deletion.
In my experience, Steve will reply within a day or two with a concise and friendly explanation.

Your post mentioned that you had a business, and the new website where it could be found. That's advertising.
If you see other threads that have links to eBay listings, report them as abuse. (We generally allow such posts only if the person doing the posting is not the seller and the purpose of the post is clearly not to promote the sale.)
