DCC Wire Colour Coding
Posted by Fergmiester on Saturday, January 1, 2005 7:36 PM
Just a quick question

Is it safe to assume that Digitrax, Soundtraxx, MRC, Prodigy, etc., go by the same NMRA standard for colour coding their decoder/sound unit wires the same.

If I wanted to solder a 2x4 plug on a decoder pigtail as long as I followed the colour code I shouldn't go wrong, right?

Right, they all follow the NMRA color coding standard, at least as far as the basic 8 wires are concerned. They also tend to have the same color coding for the wires beyond the basic 8, though some call the purple wire 'violet'.

It's an 'engineer' thing. There is no such thing as purple, it's ALWAYS violet - violet being one of the colors of the spectrum, whereas purple is someone else's term, probably the artists [:D]
