Well, the weather is all over the spectrum this weekend. Either way, it is a GOOD time to be working on model projects
I have several projects going on these recent weeks. One in particular that I have photos of is the resurrection of an old Life-Like Alco FA-2 (AF16 in PRR speak). I stumbled across this on eBay from a seller that happens to live only a few miles from me. It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up, brand new, old stock (still in the shrink-wrap).

I decided to give the A-B pair a Tsunami 2 sound decoder and install a Train Phone antenna system, a PRR distinction.

I've had these Cal-Scale stanchions for years. Glad to finally put them to use.

These vintage Life-Like Proto locomotives are a boon to us HO modelers. Very nicely detailed and easy to upgrade the running gear.
When I placed the A-B set on the DC test track all I got was a hum and an amperage spike!
Upon opening the chassis, I found that some kind of crud had grown on the main worm shaft and the bearings were locked. Somehow the lubricant reacted with the bronze and formed a crusty corroded lacquer coating.

A little mineral spirits, some good CRC 2-26 lube and some LaBelle 106 on the gears, plus new axle gears, and she was running smooth as silk!

How happy, I'm in the first on this fun topic.
Well my depot is finished.
I kitbashed this depot, work was begun last summer but because of my move to Canada, I didn't have a lot of time to work on .
Sure this is the last model I build in Europe.....
The kitbash is in N scale and started from a Walthers Clarksville depot.
I love the depot on The Piermond Division of the layout of Howard Zane.
Owning his fabulous book, I would like to have such kind of depot on my layout.
The N scale Walthers kit was a start, all the upstair structures is scatchbuild from Evergreen parts, Tichy windows and Redutex slates, the model is lighted, has some relief details inside including people.
More people will come on the perron when the model will be installed in my Port Elisabeth, a new town on my layout, first project work when in Canada.

Good morning from mostly cloudy and warm Northeast Ohio, rain expected this afternoon.
Thanks for starting us out Ed, I have a pair of those to do sometime in the future, although I love my Rapido FA-2's.
Marc, that is a very nice structure, your work came out looking great!
I managed to finish a couple of cars this week.
Atlas (Ex Branchline) 40' Boxcar Kit. Used the coorect ends and roof to replicate the TH&B 40' Boxcars ordered in 1949 and 1953 from National Steel Car. Car was painted in the Tiger Cat #2 Scheme (to homor the Hamilton Tiger Cat Football Team) which was used from 1955 on. Also added the 1967 Canada Centennial with the Green Maple Leaf which was added in 1966 and 67 to the cars. Car was used for clean lading service like flour and sugar. Painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and Black Paints then lettered with Aberdeen Car Shops decals.
Next up an Athearn 2893CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray paint and letted with Microscale Decals. Many of these cars were used to move Soda Ash for various industrial and home uses.

Ed: Thank you for starting us off. The PENNSYLVANIA locomotives are looking very good.
Marc: That depot is great! I love the tall tower. Truly a project to be very proud of.
Rick: The TORONTO HAMILTON AND BUFFALO frieght cars have always been among my favorites. I do not hav any custom roadname decals that have a herald that looks like the TH&B ribbon.
Garry: Thank you for sharing another picture of your amazing layout.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of a work in progress of a Life-Like Proto 2000 gondola where I was working on the wood deck. I have finished that gondola car, and also a boxcar to match.
These are decorated for the fictional WISCONSIN AND MICHIGAN railroad. I plan on doing a third W&M car evetually with the "IRON BELT" herald. We have so many "snowbirds" come to Florida from Wisconsin and Michigan, that this just seemed appropriate.
This boxcar was built from an Intermountain kit.

Nice work everyone. Seems like a slow WPF so I will pitch in with pics of an ongoing project.
I decided to tackle an HOn30 shay project, using a shapeways 3D print and a Tomytec N drive. The instructions call for a TM-04, but that drive has been out of stock for a while. So I opted for a TM-21, but had to remove the front weight and shaft to make it fit. I also had to shave off a bit of plastic on the frame that holdes the motor....
Anyway, it works beautifully, with some added weigth on the drive. The gears don't actually work on the model, but it's so tiny that most folks won't notice, hopefully . The shapeways print needed some sanding - I also removed some lines using a square Xacto blade. I still have a bit of tuning and painting to do, but it's getting there.
The first pic shows the 3D print out of the box, with the Tomytec drivetrain. The second pic shown the assembly, with a coat of primer for now, next to my HO 20 ton shay...

I agree, Rick, my pair of Rapido FAs are the B&O passenger units. I plan on getting some E-L when they are available. For now those Proto-2000s are running sweet. That covered hopper sure looks sweet. I also remember EXPO '67. We went to Montreal to see it.
Those E's look just like the ones in the photo I posted in the Diner, Garry. E8s are my favorite.

That concrete cap on the brick building looks just like a sub-station at GE where I used to work. It is those kinds of little details that really make a scene come alive.

That looks like a fun project, Simon. 3D printing has made a lot of neat stuff available.
Speaking of 3D, a few things that I ordered came in this weekend
First up are these Alco prime movers and generators:

I just gave them a light primer coat for now. These are going to make some nice detail scenes. Then, my boiler arrived to use either as a flat car load or as a scene in the roundhouse area:

This thing is actually formed just like a real boiler. Both flue sheets are there and the firebox walls are open inside like a real one. All the cleanout plugs are there and staybolt caps. Amazing!

Then, the pair of carbon black cars arrived. Wow, these things are beautifully detailed and lettered. My first from ScaleTrains:

Finally, I decided to take a look at the MTH ore jennies they offer. Funny thing about MTH. Some of their stuff is so toy-like it is, well, comical. Yet their passenger cars and some of their freight cars are superb. I was really suprised at the level of detail on these B&LE ore jennies.

They even picked up on the extra air line to operate the dumpers. I remember seeing these running out of Conneaut, Ohio hauling ore to Pittsburgh. Got a cab ride once back in the '70s.
