New to this Forum!

I figured it was a New year and high time that I joined a Railroad Forum and start learning more about my Hobby.

I've been around for more years than I care to admit. Been a modeler since the 60's in all forms. My Children were not interested in Trains or my Layout so that waned so I could concentrate on them and the things that they enjoyed.

Now that we are empty nesters, I've gotten into my trains again buying a few things the "I" like without regard to what Railroad I would like to model. Most of my stuff is New York Central or Santa Fe, and a pretty even split.

Being that I am Retired USAF, I have an interest in the WWII Troop Trains and I have a few Walthers Cars that were sold as a set and like them a lot.

I tend to buy Ready-to-Roll Stock like some of the New Athearn cars or the Bachman Silver Series that I've had good luck with. My locos have been everything from the basic Bachman stuff for my Grand Son, to Proto 2000, Athearn Genesis, and Bachman Spectrum for what I use on the layout.

I have the desire for a DC, Sound equipt, Steam Locomotive to grab the attention of my Grand Son. So far he loves what he sees and I want to think that he enjoys the Steam more than the Diesel Electrics. Keep in mind that this little boy is just 13 months old! But hewill sit there in his high chair and not move or tough anything! I figure that if he like this, that I would support his desire and his interest in this.

With all of this in mind, I think I like what I see in the Broadway Limited line of Sound equipt Locomotives. So how do these units measure up and run?

[#welcome] chris, glad to have you aboard. If you can come to the coffee shop, where you'll find a lot of good advice, friends, and conversation. As for your question, I can't help you. 'til, later.

[#welcome] from an old salt Navy Viet-Nam vet. Can't help you much with the Boadway Limited question. Surely someone here will though. Welcome aboard. Ken

Hey Chris!

Welcome to the forum!

BLI makes some VERY nice and VERY well detailed steamers. I got to see a 4-6-2(?) run at my local hobby shop (LHS) yesterday afternoon - with sound! Very impressive! (Ahhhhh, one of these days...)

Chris, you mentioned that you tend to buy RTR stock. Hey, I want to encourage you to try your hand at putting together a kit or two. It really adds to the interest and dimenson of the hobby for me. Athearn makes some good, basic, easy to put together kits. Personally, I like Accurail. They're fairly easy to put together but have better detailing than the Athearn. Athearn does have more of a variety though.

If you get good at making those, then you can move up to the more challenging kits like Proto 2000, Tichy, and Red Caboose.

Hi Chris!

First off, [#welcome]. This is a great place for learning, as well as sharing.

As to BLI, I have a number of their locos, steam, diesel, and electric. They are all excellent machines, in terms of their detail, running character, and the sound system. I highly recommend them.

Welcome NYC56,I'm pretty much in the same boat as you.Korean vet, empty nester, semi retired,NYC fan.I have two BLI engines, the Mikado and the Hudson and both are excellent models. The QSI sound is awsome. You may also look into the newer Bachman Spectrum and Life Like Proto Heritage series. The modelers on this fourm are a wealth of modeling knowledge and have been a great help to me through out the past year.

Thanks for the Welcome folks!

Oh! I do have a few Kits that I've built in the past couple of years. The Proto 2000 stuff is nice, but I need to get my eyes checked after i build one! I can't believe the eye strain I get with all those detail parts.

Being that I live in New York State, modeling The NYC would make sense. Some of my late teen and early 20's were spent in New Mexico at Canon AFB. This was near Clovis New Mexico which had a pretty good sized railyard when I was there, and of course Santa Fe was all there.

I'm very happy to see fellow Vets here. Thanks for Serving!
