Anyone using a non-DCC sound system?

I'm using the Soundtraxx "Heartland Steam" sound system for my non-sound locos and it's a zinger! I hooked up some small speakers at several points under the layout, and since the "Heartland Steam" comes with a semi-doppler effect, one gets the general impression that the sound is actually coming from the locomotive. You can set it for individual locomotives if you want--articulateds, etc. And you can 'accidentally' program in some odd, but I think authentic sub-sounds (an engineer saying "Oh #!^#!" if you stop the loco too soon and cause coupler crash). I have a lot of fun with it, and so do visitors. I'm strictly DC at this point.

Don, that's the system I have--Throttle Up. I don't know which IR system I have. An R.F. control? What's the R.F. mean--radio frequency?

Yes, I bought it used on eBay. It's one of several I've seen on there. I didn't know about through the track part. You are right, though. I found more info and it does indeed go through the track, too. I like my stereo speakers better!

Any more info on locating the R.F. control would be greatly appreciated!

SONDTRAXX's I.R.systwm called 'THROTTLE UP' the only system they made. Do you have the IR-D or IR-S?. I HAVE BOTH.

Problems with I.R. are due to 1. AIM. One must hit the window. 2.LOW BATTERIES. I solved first problem with R.F. control from a place. in FL. Soundtraxx can refer you. Appro $ 75 -100. WOW!

Your system sends sounds both in the track AND an to an undertable speaker. Did you buy it used?

Don, It's not that system. This one uses an infrared remote control with a choice of sounds and settings as well as engine controls like momentum, etc. The sound that is produced is sent from the receiver direct to a stereo speaker.

Being infrared, sometimes I have to hit the a button several times to turn an effect on or off. Likewise, I can't get good responses from my engines because the receiver doesn't always get the command.

Sounds like the start of another "reason to switch to DCC" post, doesn't it? [:D]

Your SOUNDTRAXX Analog sound system actually geneates sound through the track.. and Multiple engines ALL play back the single selected sound, in unison.

SOUNDTRAXX DCC = Each engine (module) is an independent sound generator. It's possible to have 4 engnes with different sunds in each running together.

Both systems' sound capabilites greatly exceed the speaker's one normally must use.

An expensive SUB WOOFER system ($400 - 500) will do wonders added to your current Analog system. I remember SOUNTRAXX's early sound demos used a large $400 Cewin Vega speaker.

QSI's system generates sounds in each engine - BUT - It's the same set of sounds - with some modifictions - for example all ATSF3751, s will sound alike. Only the 'chuff' rate will vary.

IDEAS: BUY a sub woofer system
PUT (2) 1" speakers in a car to 'head-end' your train.

Anyone on here have any success with a non-DCC sound system? I've got an older infrared control and sound system from Soundtraxx and am somewhat disappointed with its poor response. I'm not up to DCC yet, so I was wondering what else folks might use. I saw a new system out, the MRC Synchro Sound system and just wondered how well it would work.

Any thoughts on a non-DCC sound system for a person with older, non-sound equipped engines?[?]
