Brass track

I've noticed people say that brass track doesn't "look" right, well I just went down to the tracks and I didn't see any nickel shiny track, it looked pretty rusty to me, Also I have never heard anyone complain about a layout that the track doesn't look real, have you? Why isn't H.O. track made out of steel ? By the way, is anyone still making brass track? if not there must be warehouses and basements full of this stuff. I just realized why there is no used brass track around, after ripping up the screws, nails, glue, ballast goop, wires etc. there's not much left is there?

Mehano still sells it in some of its kits. You're right Tatans no track looks "real". One way around that is to paint the track with grimy black then clean the topp of the rail off. I've done it, it can be a royal pain around turnouts but it does add that touch of realism. Steel oxides quickly and would require alot of cleaning in humid environments. Stainless steel is far too costly.
