Whay do the 80% or what ever it is, of the people on this forum-including myself -usaully post non-informative, non-interesting, or non-valuable threads? DeSchane what makes your posts so interesting to read?

If all the topics were only on specific MR issues, it would be a pretty slow place.

I kind of disagree with the 80%. I find that a lot of the posts here are pretty genuine inquiries about certain aspects of model railroading that either require 1: Help, or 2: at least discussion. The ones that are interesting--and that seems to be the majority of them--have quite a few posts. The ones that are not interesting have very few. The ones that are downright stupid (like one I posted the other day) get answered pretty well with one post. Hey, we're a discussion group, and not every subject appeals to everyone. Sort of like discussions at a party--if you don't like one, you can always walk to another group and see what they're talking about. Pretty soon, you'll get involved.

Well lets see here. The best way to answer this is I DUNNO. I personaly feel that this hobby is so vast as far as different eras, type of equipment and ways of doing things that I never really gave it much thought. Also the people that participate in this forum all have different ideas, interest and personalities and just like in real life some topics appeal to me and some don't. Some, and I'm not one of them, can express their ideas clearly or better than others and some tend to ramble on like I'm starting to do now. Ken

I would put that 80% at 30%. And I would also say that comiserating is part of the "sharing the pain " process as this hobby of ours is not for the faint of heart or the impatient!

Just my thoughts on the matter

I don't know that I'd put the figure as high as 80%. I think that a lot of the people don't have anything to do so they come to the forum and to see what's going on. Then while they're here they think and think to come up with something to post and they can't think of anything good so they do a poll or ask some dumb question that they know will generate some replies.

Deschane posted an April Fools thread that asked a loaded question that he knew the answer to, but baited those who didn't know to try to answer. Had you known the true answer, you would have seen through the spoof. While I didn't try to answer the question, I was still a victim of the gotcha factor! I think it's one of his best posts ever. My fave anyway.

It's easy enough for us to sift through and read what we want. I still have a bit of a problem with all of the poll subjects. I avoid the poll threads like the plague.

80% is a rather subjective figure, it seems.

I read the posts and decide if have an answer to a question or a response to a post. I reply or don't reply accordingly. I wouldn't presume to judge the worthyness of a member's post beyond how it interests me, though. (Unless it's an obvious SPAM message for someone's commercial product, as we sometimes see.)

I tend to agree that some threads are off topic.
This is a discussion group and I tend to feel
we all do share a common thread here,
WE ALL LOVE TRAINS. So , no thread here
should ever be criticized by anyone. I find
that if I don't want to respond I won't.
Please , we are here to gather and discuss.
I am certainly here because I love the company.
