If you're willing to try a self-repair, put some silicon sealant under the motor, press it down to insure that the gears are properly meshed, and let it sit for at least 24 hours for the silicon to set. I always keep a supply of Elmer's Stix-All, Loctite Handyman's All-Purpose Adhesive-Sealant, or a tube of clear silicon caulking available for projects such as this.

IHC 4-6-4 Hudson problem
Posted by mechanic on Thursday, December 30, 2004 7:48 PM
Hi all.My wife bought me a 4-6-4 Hudson and a 0-8-0 switcher from IHC for Christmas.
The 0-8-0 is the best running loco. that I've ever run.
The Hudson on the other hand is the exact opposite.
When I got it I put it on the track in the normal fashion and it wouldn't run.The headlight and/or backup light lit, and you could hear the motor turning but the drivers will not try and move.
O.K. I thought it's a warranty problem, no biggie just send it back.
Well I'm very frugal so I head on over to my LHS and ask questions.
The lhs's train tech. takes one look and says "oh no, not another one of those!"
Apparently IHC redesigned the Hudson lately to save costs and the motor isn't
really attached to anything.
They showed me a different IHC Hudson that was in for the same problem. When it was properly assembled it would run perfectly in reverse. When power was applied in the forward direction, the torque from the motor would pu***he motor up out of its slot in the housing and the universal
would fall off!
Anyone else have any similar problems or dilemma's with this loco?
Any ideas on what to do about it?
Should I bail out on their Hudson and get a different loco of theirs?
Or would you recommend a different manufacturer all together.
Sorry to sound so down on their products, but for $200 Canadian, you would think you would get a decent running locomotive?
Thanks for any input.
