I would like advice on selling my deceased husbands blue comet and penna railroad sets. What are they worth and where do I sell them? They are n scale

First, Let me express my condolences about your Husband.

But we need to know what shape they are in, and missing parts, who made them, how old, how much theyve been run, have boxes

Who knows? They look good to me. I threw out all the boxes. I was so mad that he died I got rid of his operating layout in the garage, sold everything I could get my hands on but these looked so good I thought I would save them so every time I looked at them I would get mad at him all over again fior wasting so much money 0 so there.

The missing boxes will decrease their value markedly.

I assume that the Blue Comet has a steam locomotive and six passenger cars.

You do not state what is in the PRR set. It could be the boxcars, it could be a pair of six axle diesels and six passenger cars or it could be something else. I seem to recall that there may have been two different PRR passenger diesel sets (PAs and FMs) and two different boxcar sets, but I do not recall if any of the boxcar sets had locomotives. There may have been other PRR sets, but I can not recall. My interest in C-C sets has been a passing one.

I have little idea what they are worth considering that the boxes are missing and assuming that the trains have been operated. I know what I would pay for the Blue Comet set used and no box and it is not very much, especially if it is an older set. The steam locomotive in the older sets had a metal frame that deteriorated with age.

I also know what I would pay for the PRR if it were any of the sets that I mentioned, again, not as much as you might think and I might not be intereseted if it were the boxcar set(s). I might be interested in the passenger set, depending on what locomotive it was.

A hobby store may or may not be interested in them, but they do not often pay much for used stuff--some pay less than ten cents on the dollar. Some stores will take them on consignment, they usually keep about twenty-per-cent of the sale price as their fee. You could also try e-Bay, but I could not tell you at what to set the reserve without seeing the equipment.
