Yup, the screw in question is one of the above mentioned screws.

.

PM me your address. I will put an assortment of small screws in the mail for you. I will be back home in a few days.

.

I'll bet I have one that will work.

The newer Walthers Mainline SW1's have the same size screws, course thread self tap. I didn't believe the trucks had screws when You posted it, but it does have two screws holding the gear cover plate on the truck. I believe they are 1-72, 3/8ths or 1/4'' long...I did not measure them.

Take Care! Big Smile

BTW: It will work with one until You find one.........

Yup, the screw in question is one of the above mentioned screws.  I had thought about emailing Walthers if I didn't get any ideas from the Forums.

FRRY,

Are you talking about the screws that hold the gear cover to the bottom side of the truck?  If so, they are definitely smaller than 2-56; maybe 1-72 or 1-80...unless they are metric (Roco motor).

You might want to shoot an email off to Walthers and ask them directly.  Just make sure you tell them it's from their first run of SW1s from the early 90s...

2/56 size screws. As for the length, I have no idea.

I don't think it is 2-56. I have played with enough of them to know that this screw is smaller than that.

Wolf359

take it to your local hardware store if possible. I've usually had good luck with that option.

The hardware stores around here don't have anything that small.

Can you post a picture of the matching screw from the other truck? Maybe with a penny for size comparrison?

This may not be the clearest image, but I hope it will suffice. Eack truck has two screws of this type.

While I don't have any experience with that particular model, most of my models have 2/56 size screws. As for the length, I have no idea. My suggestion would be to put one of the remaining screws in a little plastic bag and take it to your local hardware store if possible. I've usually had good luck with that option. Then, if it works anything like it does for the rest of us, you'll buy a new screw and the original will return from the wormhole. I lost a spring once, replaced it, and about two months later it surfaced in the coal bunker of another locomotive.Big Smile

Screw for Walthers SW1

Got yet another one for my Forum friends: Does anyone know what size/length of screw would be needed to replace one of the truck screws on an original production (Plastic tubing driveline) Walthers SW1? I was working with that engine this afternoon and lost one of the screws. As usual any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.
