What's going on with MR?
Posted by josephbw on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 10:15 AM

Today I recieved my second subscription renewal notice this week. I already renewed a few months ago and my subscription expires Dec. of 2020.

Also I tried to submit a Flea Mkt ad to the website and  i intend to place an ad in the magazine also. I was not able to submit the ad to the website because I got an error that the page was not available.

I sent a question to customer service and they just gave me the run around.

Are there issues with your cash flow?

According to another member of this parish, MR is currently doing a major reconstruction/upgrade of their IT systems, hence the occasional, but nevertheless annoying hiccup.

Happy times!

I think some of the shredded Dots - Sign pieces got sucked into the cooling fan inlets and gummed up the works.

Ahhh! That makes sense, a lot of Dots - Sign has been getting thrown around lately.

Oh boy, just what we need, another forum upgrade! We so enjoyed the past few.

Nowadays. Upgrades alnost have to be weekly events to keep up with the criminals.   With major rebuilds monthly.    It sucks but a sign of the times

As far as I have understood the situation, we do not talk forum software upgrade, but hardware.

Happy times!

I used to work in IT.

Not having to do support is a major reason I'm glad I'm retired.

Do you mean a link to my flea mkt, or a link to the flea mkt column?

Yes there will be a flea market in March. As soon as I can get it posted in the coming events column, you will find the details.

I thought he was saying it was somewhere on this website, which didn't add up given the forum rules.

Coming events is on this website. Go to the top right of this page and click on resourses, then click on coming events. There are the listings of upcoming RR related events.

Flea markets yes!  Dots - Sign They are hard to find these days, I do miss themTongue Tied.... I remember the Blaine flea market. It was so big and so huge it would take you an hour and a half to go through even if you were in a hurry.

I very rarely ever bought anything. It's just one of those things when you're bored and your glad to have something to do looking through all that crap.

What is with this that you somehow like looking at other people's junk even though you're all full up here and don't need any moreIndifferent

Things that make you go hmmm

I think it's the thrill of the hunt. A basic fundimental neccessity that has it's origins in the stone age. Smile

After you've captured your prey, the rest is just mundane, and a mental let down.

I think it's the thrill of the hunt.

Without a doubt for the majority of us.

When I was collecting short line IPD boxcars it was the thrill of the hunt and when a real  hard to find road name was found I was happy but,on the other hand kinda sad because the hunt ended for that car.

I have no problem getting to that page. It's after I fill out the form, answer all the questions and try to submit the form to post my flea market info, that it all falls apart. Angry

I sometimes have the same problem when writing a long forum reply. In technical terms, the TCP timeout is set too low, or else it is mismatched between the load balancer fronting the web servers and the web servers themselves. I have seen this problem with other applications when these settings aren't correctly configured (it's part of my day job).

Type faster, or have as much of the information remembered, or typed up in Notepad to quickly copy and paste in, and it will probably work.

That may be one of the issues Randy, but there may be other issues also. I clicked on the Coming Events, then clicked on Swap Meets, then looked at page one. I got to the bottom of the page and clicked on next page and got the very same notice that I had gotten trying to post my flea mkt details. Definitely something screwy going on.

i recently had to call Customer Service to change my email (thanks Steve Otte).

despite the fact that there there is a public email entry in your profile, your email address used as a login is used for forum email.

i did as customer service said created a new login with my new email, but i needed a username.   Of course when I tried entering my existing user name, it said it was already taken.

ironically, i had received a newsletter from MR using the updated email in my profile.    But the forum is apparently separate from the MR magazine website.

fortunately, customer service, which of course is under contract to MR and many other magazines, understood the dilema and reassigned my username to my new email/login.

but usernames are unique to logins.   I see i no longer have a username associated with my old email/login.   Wonder how many useless accounts there are.
