I was going to mention that, too, but I was late to the party.
If the worm is in good condition, remove it from the wormshaft (should be easy if it's slipping).I'm not familiar with that loco, but if the shaft is also the shaft of the motor, you'll need to remove the motor, too. Otherwise, if it's a separate shaft, simply remove it, then place a not-too-coarse mill file on your workbench, lay the worm-end of the shaft on the file (let the remainder protrude over the edge of the file), then carefully place another similar file atop the portion of the shaft that's on the first file.
Place one hand on each end of the second file, applying moderate pressure, then push the file in a manner that causes the shaft to rotate - one revolution-or-so is usually all that's required.This operation in known as "upsetting" the shaft: the two files and the rolling of the shaft roughen the shaft's surface, so when you re-install the worm, there's more "tooth" to prevent it from slpping.
If you wish, you can also apply some ca, but I would suggest a watery-type, applied after the worm is on the shaft, and in its proper position.Otherwise, Bachmann may have parts, and their repair or replace warranty is a good one.

I ran into the same problem on an engine at our club. After looking it over carefully I found that the coupling was cracked. I ordered a new one, replaced it, and all was fine.
Ours was an Atlas engine, and parts were available, I'm not so sure about Bachman.

You're going to have to remove the worm and shaft assembly to put ACC on it. When you do that, first clean it of lubricant. Then inspect the worm. If it's cracked, I think you're wasting your time with ACC. If it's not, I'd give it a shot. "What ya got to lose?"

I had a similar problem with a BLI Hudson. A drop of CA fixed it, but work quickly before it sets.
