I'm afraid this discussion is off-topic, as we haven't updated our Forum software in years. Huh?

XP end-of-support was four years ago. Since then, the bad guys have created a ton of exploits targeting XP that have not been addressed by Microsoft. I hate planned obsolescence as much as the next guy, but why would you want to go on the Internet with an operating system that is so thoroughly compromised?

@Mark R,

XP is past end-of-life; no support and you are using that thing on the wild wild web?  Do yourself a favor and at least get a Win 7 clunker if money is an issue; it is good until Jan 2020 at least.  Better yet, go Win 10.

Time (and tech) devour everything.

Back about 2003 I started dual booting XP with Linux, a very secure OS. Finally dumped XP as it was becoming a pain.

I bought a new W10 PC a couple years ago and use that one some times. Works good here. Need it for iTunes, specifically.

My fairly new iPad and iPhone run very well on the Internet also.

I am not a techie. Just an old timer who has kept up with the times.

I had the same problem on my Mac a few years ago.  Surprise!  It was easily cured by buying a new Mac.

Resistance is few-tile.

Sorry, dude.

New Security Protocol On Some Sites
Posted by Mark R. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 10:34 PM

Anyone else here still using Windows XP ? Appears as though I keep getting pushed further to the back of the bus. Apparently a lot of sites are moving to a newer security protocol that my old Windows XP machine won't let me access any longer because XP is no longer supported for the required updates. One suggestion was to use Firefox instead of Chrome, but Firefox won't let me proceed without a cell number as a back-up for data, and I don't own a cell phone ! I guess my reluctance to keep up with technology is going to one day soon shove me right out the back door of this bus and leave me behind.

Mark.
