MEC Pine Green Mix

THis one is for my forum friends that model the pre-Guilford Maine Equipment Central (MEC). Other that Scalecoat's premixed color (which I can't find at the moment) and the Tru-color, have any of you come up with a water-based paint or paint mix for that color? I have a small supply of the old Polly Scale but it is getting older and eventually it will run out. (I use that green as one of the main colors for my protolanced railroad.) I don't use an airbrush as I don't have any place for a hood and for half the year, I can't paint outside.

I can work with Humbrol or Model Master paints or mixes with those paints. I am not a fan of Tamyia paints, however. I find that the Tamyia doesn't cover well.

As usual, any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.

Minuteman Models (the owner of Scalecoat) doesn't list a Pine Tree Green at all, but when I googled Maine Central Pine Tree Green, a lot of train photos showed up, and many of them look fairly close to Polly S "Signal Green" (fairly dark, like some of the photos showing new-ish models and real diesels and freight cars).  Some of the other photos looked similar to Polly S "Dark Green", which, to my eyes, looks like the first colour, but faded somewhat.

I also have two bottles of PollyScale "Dark Green", and they look to be similar to the Polly S "Dark Green", but even more faded.

I should also note that the Polly S versions are, quality-wise and performance-wise, pretty-much identical to the PollyScale versions, as some of the early Polly S paint colours were very good in those ways, but others, not so good.      

If you type "MAINE CENTRAL PINE TREE GREEN PAINT" into the google search thingy, you'll see the same examples to which I've compared the paints which I have on-hand.

Walthers shows it as an Advance Reservation item with an availability of TBA.

To further clarify, what I am looking for is some sort of a mix in either Humbrol or Model Master that I can replicate the Green. I have done that mix idea with a couple of colors that I need for my modeling and they both work wonderfully.

You might try Crafters Acrylic Paint from Michael’s, Joann or Hobby Lobby.  I take a bottle of what I’m looking for with me to compare and have done pretty good over the years.  There are hundreds of colors to pick from.

 

My hardest match was SP Daylight red, I got as close as I could by eye, slightly too much red.  I added a bit of black (about four drops from an eye dropper to a 2oz bottle) and it’s right on the money.

 

I use Tamiya X204A thinner for thinning Crafters paint for my airbrush.  I have found that Crafters Paints needs to be mixed very thin to end up with a nice smooth finish.  With a coat of Dullcote as a sealer I can’t tell the difference between Crafters Paint and solvent based paint.

Unfortunately, I don't have any of those where they would be easy to get to for me. (Especially given the fact that I don't drive.)

It looks like you’re about 150 miles from stores that would stock hobby stuff.  I could try to match the color if you could send me something with the correct color.  A small piece of plastic or even paper as a go by.  I don’t get around very well either but my wife has a good eye for paints and hits the stores weekly.  She’s into crafting and gets me all my paint goodies.

Model Master used to have an acrylic MEC Pine Green, but I do not see it now. I use TruColor. It says acrylic, but it's really solvent.

As I understand it, TruColor is pre-thinned for use in an airbrush. That makes it too thin for brush painting.
