Logansport Iron Horse Festival Train
Posted by emdmike on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 8:01 PM

For many years when I was a young boy, the yearly Iron Horse Festival heald in Logansport, Indiana was my yearly dose of real steam trains.  Dad would take me up and spend the whole day walking the festival with me, riding the train atleast once and checking out the model train show.  I got a cab ride in the 2-8-0 on of the last years it ran.  For years I have had one of the souvenir passenger cars, but finding a 2-8-0 that looked right eluded me.  I finaly thru some help found out the engine was ex BC&G #13, which was based on the C&O G9 class engines.  I purchased an Overland brass model and set about the modifications to get her close enough for me. Changes include removal of the headlight and shelf from the smoke box door and replacment with a PRR style keystone plate, custom shelf and headlight mounted to top of smokebox, removal of class lights and brackets and custom decals(which are made and waiting on the model to be painted).  The coaches they used were ex Rock Island commuter cars, never offered in brass or plastic.  I did find a couple older brass coaches that are close enough, and they will be next to be purchased.  I do plan to pick up the other years of souvenir coaches as I can find them.  The 2-8-0 is nearly silent when running with the stock Sagami motor and idler gear box.  Rok Am was the builder in Korea, this is the first run of the model, Ajin built the late run but those lack the big cab, instead having the smaller "sports" cab.     Mike the Aspie

Here she is as recieved with all her C&O details in place

Here she is mid process, details removed, shelf mounted and a temp headlight just sitting there(not correct style light).  Waiting on correct light and keystone plate.

Here is the real #1

Here are a couple of progress pics of L&ER #1, first posed by herself and then with my other OMI locomotive, NYSW GE Dash8-40B.  Headlight and custom mounting shelf along with a keystone have been soldered in place.  Trying to see if I can find a more correct pilot now.     Mike the Aspie
