JMRI has a module that generates switch lists.  At 32 min into this video, they show it.  That will give you a feel if it is something that can work for you.

I agree with Mr Lieman, computer assignment of car and routing slips is tedious and most are not self correcting.  A manually operated car\carcard system or hand written switch list is self correcting, in that wherever your car is it can be directed, or is  all ready is directed to where it should be.

If you're only dealing with a couple of dozen industries or less, it's less time consuming to do them manually, but that's just me and computers. You still have to keep up with them and resolve discrepancies between the cards and what's on the cpmputer unless you eliminate the cards and then the guessing just shifts from the cards to the models. I have around a 100 industries and have yet to find myself with enough desire to convert to a computer aided system.

Then again, it also sounds too much like work, since I used to be an inventory clerk

Looking for a Car Card & Waybill generater,it has to be easy to operate ,has to be idiot proof. I have tried quite a few operating programs in the past nothing has worked for me. I have no experiance with useing computers apart from simply stuff.I've never neaded to use them.
