I tried posting this earlier today but something happened to it. I have to go the VA this coming week and wondered if there were any good hobby/Train shops in Waco Texas.
Thanks for any info.
Nothing happened to it. Your previous post on this topic is about 5 or 6 down from this one. Either a slow day on the forum or nobody has an answer right now.
There is a hobbytown USA listed for Waco- not sure how much trains they carry. Been at quite a few around the country and they vary how much is stocked in trains. If you are headed through Dallas on the way there Discount Model Trains is a must stop- in my opinion one of the best shops in the country.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I didn't look far enough on down the list.
Dallas is north of us, about 110 miles, so I won't be going that way, Waco is 123 miles west. Nothing is close out here
Sorry wasn't sure which way you were coming from. That true everything is a ways in Texas. (Have an uncle near Dallas and been through Texas several times for meetings and it seems like you drive forever) Hobby shops are generally a drive anywhere. (I gotta admit discount model trains would be worth a 110 mile drive though) Lived in Oklahoma, Missouri, California, Indiana, Chicago and now Virginia. The only places that I have been less than an hour to a hobby shop were in Springfield MO and in Chicago (if you don't count the endless waiting in traffic.... )
Hobby shops are rare entities in Central Texas. I don't know of any that are primarily train related anymore in Waco, Temple, Bryan or College Station. There used to be a train show vendor named Puffing Billy who was based out of Waco, but I am not sure that he had a retail location. I closed my College Station shop 20 years ago, and there have been two Hobbytown USAs that tried to make it here, but didn't. Neither had much in the way of train inventory.
Distances are not quite that far to a shop from Sebring FL. about 1.5 hrs drive, maybe a bit longer. Sure glad Al Gore invented the internet.
I know most people use the internet, but sometimes it's nice to hold a product in your hand before you buy it. The neatest hobby store is a hobbytown in Tyler which is 90 miles away. I love living in the country but there are times it's a pain.
Well it's also nice to see a product you didn't know existed, or weren't able to determine what it looked like by a tiny website photo.
Modeltrainstuff chose to make their retail store smaller to make their web operations bigger so what do I know?
