I also stock 2mm steel rod for making drive shafts.  I’ve remotored over 40 locomotives using NWSL universals, great stuff!  For powerful motors it helps to rough up the shaft at the universal then CA them

As others have mentioned, Northwest Shortline makes 2mm universals. I have an assortment of their stuff so i always seem to have what I need on hand. You should not have any big problems with this.

NWSL sells all sizes of universal joints, I keep a good stock of their 2mm universals.

Same here—

I used some 2mm shafting and universals to repair an Overland drive-line a while back. I like to order an assortment of sizes to keep on hand for various repairs.

The universals that came with the flywheels are for 3/32" shaft. (?!?!?). 

They offer universals in 3/32 shaft size, too. Sometimes the flywheel has a recess that the "cup" presses into.

I'm not sure that I understand the set-up, but NWSL does offer various adapter bushings to modify shaft diameters.

....I'm thinking of inserting brass / plastic tubing into the universal and then drilling it out with the 2mm drill. Trouble is, I'm not sure it will seat well enough and hold tightly enough.....

If you go that route, I'd suggest using the brass tubing, and doing the drill-out incrementally...that is, use a bit that's just the least bit bigger than the inside diameter of the tubing, then work up as gradually as possible to the needed size.   This should give you the best chance of keeping the enlarged opening centred.

When you assemble things, some ca/Loctite  should keep things from slipping.

I recently pressed NWSL flywheels onto a Micromark motor (shaft = 2mm).  The universals that came with the flywheels are for 3/32" shaft. (?!?!?).  Now I have a good running motor with flywheels and no way to connect it to the truck worm universals.  I'm thinking of inserting brass / plastic tubing into the universal and then drilling it out with the 2mm drill.  Trouble is, I'm not sure it will seat well enough and hold tightly enough.

I looked around for 2mm universals, but couldn't seem to find any.

Any other suggestions?
