The formula for grade is: "rise over run". Divide the amount of rise by the lenth of the run, then multiply by 100 to get the grade percent. Just remember to keep all dimentions the same. (inches/inches; feet/feet; etc)

The correct answer is 1 inch per 100 inches would equal a 1 per cent grade.

A 2% grade is,as you guessed it,a 2 in. rise for every 100 in. of train movement.

It's (in really basic terms) according to books and other experts on these forums;
2% - the track rises 2 inches in 10 feet of distance.
1% - the track rises 1 inch in 10 feet
and so on

I am new to the hobby ( HO ) I often see on track plans 2% grade. Is this 2% of scale or 2" in 100".
