Steven OtteOK, so "never" is a strong word. Tongue Tied But it hasn't been annual in the 11 years I've worked here.
Dang young whippersnappers
maxman Steven Otte Our photo contest was never annual. Ummmmm, what??????? I just looked up photo contest in the magazine index and one of the top results was "28th annual photo contest winners", in the March 2005 issue. That sort of sounds "annual" to me.

Trains still has a annual contest...
Its just a difference in scale. 1:1 versus our 1:87, 1:48, 1:64, etc.....

Our photo contest was never annual. It was something we did to fill the files when we ran low on Trackside Photos, a problem we haven't had very often since quality digital cameras got so cheap. We haven't run a photo contest in years.
I have not seen one in the past couple of years that I remember.
.
Great question.
I submitted entries twice into the contest in the 1980's, but never got anywhere with them. There was a junior catagory back then that I completed in.
Interestingly, the only thing ever published in Model Railroader that I wrote was a letter to the Student Fare column in the 1980's where I said I was helping to fund my hobby money won in photography contests. Winning something in the MR contest was a goal not attained.
This was decades before digital cameras, and taking quality images with a 35mm SLR was a skill learned over time.

I haven't been able to get MR regularly, and was wondering if the Annual Photo Contest is still going on?
Thanks
