wdcrvr I had some hassles with trying to get it to work with paypal, so I just did it straight thru on my credit card.
I had the same problems when I renewed my subscription.

You are very welcome.
maxman Please. The purpose for my original post was to bring what I thought was a good deal to the attention of forum members, especially those who claim they cannot afford the magazine; and those who expect to use the resourses of the forum for free without attempting to make a minimal attempt to support it (you know who you are). Not to get into a discussion over the virtues of credit cards versus checks, or other non-related trivia.

I'm not arguing a pro or con, but pointing out that a supposed assumption about billing is flawed. I received a renewal notice in the mail yesterday and it does say that checks may be processed as an EFT.
Hornblower After I logged in I might have had to click on subscription services.
My subscription had expired and my credit card was no longer good. I filled out the form following the email link for 2 yrs and nothing happened, no credit card charge, no confirmatory email
Called today and told the lady that I read they were honoring the 49.95 rate for old subscribers. She acted like she was unaware of that, but gave me that rate anyway. She was a nice lady. Had to hold for a while to talk to a real person, but it's a lot better than talking to a computer that says "I'm sorry I didn't get that"

If I send a check in, that is a one shot deal. I am not authorizing anyone to do anything more to my checking account. If I give you my bank/routing number online, and agree to recurring charges, that's another story. That's why I'll continue to send in a single check, they may processes it through ACH, but only for that check number. Personally, I don't give anyone permission to do anything 'automatically' from my checking account.
tommymr And this is why I'd rather send a check: Continuous Service Guarantee: Your subscription will continue without interruption for as long as you wish, unless you instruct us otherwise. We will notify and bill or charge you at the discounted renewal rate then in effect prior to each subscription term. You may cancel at any time and receive a full refund for any unmailed issues If they have credit card info, they'll charge you, otherwise they'll just bill you.

But there's nothing about a check that stops them from being able to do that either. Just file away the account and routing number and do an EFT that you already gave authorization for when you accepted those quoted terms. That's how autopaying bills from a checking account works. No reason a subscription would work any different.

Really? I've ordered different things from them several times, and I've had to give them a credit card number every time. I'm not certain they keep the number on file, but I suppose it could be possible.
ROBERT PETRICKAre you sure Customer Service said the offer would extend current subscriptions? The fine print on the ad says the offer is specifically for new subscribers only.
Well, there is nothing that is 100%. But I called twice to make sure and got the same answer both times (two different ladies). I specifically asked about the new subscribers thing because I happened to see the statement way down at the bottom below the submit button, and was told to ignore that. The said they would honor the offer.
If you have any qualms about it, give them a call and see what they say. That's what I would do if I were you. And if you get a different story, please let us know.
maxman For anyone who might be interested and missed it, Kalmback is offering a subscription special this week. One of the options is 24 issues for $49.95. This is about $2.10 per issue. This is for the hardcopy (paper) version. I called Customer Service and was told that this would extend a current subscription. If you receive the emails from Kalmbach, you will find that offer there.

Thanks for the info. Are you sure Customer Service said the offer would extend current subscriptions? The fine print on the ad says the offer is specifically for new subscribers only.

Come to think of it, I don't know when my current subscription runs out. The log-in welcome box used to tell you how long you're paid up to. Anyone know where I can find this information on the MR site now? Never mind, I just found it in the "Subscribe, Renew" section. Still, never had to dig for that info in the past.

Last year I accidentally signed up for their automatic renewal program. I wrote to customer service to cancel in Dec of this year. But they decided to cancel it in January.
I like paying for a year at a time when it's $30. I paid the $43 subscription the same time their computers forgot the money transactions from every customer.

Oh, and down at the bottom there is a place to check if you want to receive stuff via email. But don't come back later and say that you are annoyed because you receive too much stuff.
This is a pretty good deal, but am I missing out because whenever that popup popped up I closed it without even reading it? How can I find the offer if I am not on MR's emailing list?
Can I swap to that two year plan? I paid that for one year!!! Just print!!!

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Hello all,
I just renewed my MR subscription for three years at the price of $97.70.
My current three year subscription runs out with the next issue.
The special pricing of $49.95 for 24 issues sure beats the $69.92 price listed on my subscription renewal form!
A great magazine at a better price is always best.
Hop this helps.
"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"
I think my three year subscription is up. Time to renew.
Personally, I like both the digital subscription and the magazine. Model Railroader magazine is indispensable tool in an on going quest for a model railroad.
How else are you so well informed on new Model Railroad goodies monthly ? Always something for everyone. Becides, the digital subscription is an extra bonus. With this you can make the print as large as you like. Granting people who don't see well a chance to read this wonderful magazine.
Thank you Maxman for posting this.
And thank you MR for all the well informed years & the use of this forum , we daily take for granted.
