My wife and I have now been married for 24 years. We both have secure jobs as university faculty. Each one of us has their own bank accounts and retirement arrangements. My wife has different clothes for every day of the year, and I can buy whatever I need for the layout. For larger expenses (such as additions to our house), we discuss the issue and share the expenses.
When I asked her out for the first time, but she wasn't my wife then and it was a long time ago. These days she pretty much goes with the flow. We share some interests and others not so much...
drgwcs I used some cinch Jones 4 pin connectors as the plug in.
I have always used standard 4-pin microphone plugs and jacks.
Probably because that is what I had available when I built the first SGRR layout!
They have worked well. Just dumb luck that I chose wisely.
SeeYou190 drgwcs Well Kevin from experience on both selling and having the Trollers I might have an excuse for you..... just tell her you need twice as much to get some working and for spare parts. All of these have been tested and work properly. I only bought one that did not work. I don't plan to do any repairs to these. As they fail, I will just swap them out. The only modification they will receive is a three prong power cord and a grounded frame. The older ones do not even have polarized plugs, that seems dangerous to me. drgwcs While I realize that results vary I batted maybe 50% on Troller. I will say that those that didn't have issues over the initial few years kept going well (still have two handhelds) so seemed to be an initial quality control issue. Makes a good excuse though. I had a Troller Twin Momentum 5.0 that I bought in High School for my N scale layout. It was very expensive, near $100.00 at Colonial Photo and Hobby. It lasted for years, and into my HO scale days. Had one of the twin momentums too. One side the transformer failed on and on the other the rheostat failed. Tinkered with it a while but wound up junking it. I do have a couple of their handhelds that that still soldier on but one has a glitchy on off switch you have to throw just right. They are hooked up to a couple of mrc packs. Really their handheld were some of the better ones done for DC even if their rheostats were a bit limited on range. I used some cinch Jones 4 pin connectors as the plug in.
My mom bought me a Troller pack when I was 12. It made a huge difference back then... Unfortunately, it broke down a few years later. I hear that some of them were indeed prone to failure. Kevin's "lifetime" stock approach makes total sense...

I too, had a Troller power pack in high school (in the 70s); that is what I bought to upgrade my first Tyco pack. I have had several more Troller products over the years; one of the handheld throttles that you hooked up to a DC power source failed years ago. Recently bought another off ebay because I could.

DrWI assume you are aware that Intermountain produced the C&O box car with the Art Deco ends.
Nope, I had no idea. I would assume if undecorated versions were made, they were pretty rare. I have never seen one for sale.
All OK. I enjoy assembling Sunshine kits.
The wife is fine with whatever. It's the mother in law that has a problem. "You spent how much for that train? Why not buy my daughter a pair of shoes?!" "Because" I replied calmly "I already did that twice this month, now it's my turn to get something." Ohh boy, did my wife laugh. I'm so blessed that my SO is supportive of my hobby, so I try to support her's.

The model arrived today, and I showed it to my wife. She asked what made this kit worth the price, and I showed her the nifty Deco ends in the kit. She said "That's all, those goofy looking pieces", and I replied "yes!" Then she said it, "You have got to be kidding me!"

I assume you are aware that Intermountain produced the C&O box car with the Art Deco ends. I only found out about it after I had bought the American Scale Models brass version. Well, both are beautiful cars with a lot of differences in the details.

But to be fair, I show her posts on other forums too, and for different reasons, she also shakes her head.

This one is a little complicated...
A while back, I painted a train car for the PACIFIC TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, and gave it reporting marks PTX. Good renough, but this started a problem.
Later, I acquired a set of decals for the PROVIDENCE TANK LINE, which had the reporting marks PTX, which I used, and then realized I had a duplicate. To fix it, I added a "T" to the beginning and made it TPTX.
Well, I just lettered a tank car for the TEXAS PORT TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, reporting marks TPTX! I had to soak out a decal letter and change it to TPRX, and I got mad.
I tried to explain all this to my wife, and well, you know what she said.
