I just got mine yesterday and skimmed through it today. I think it looks like a good issue with plenty of interesting articles.
Modeling the Baltimore waterfront in HO scale
Feel free to post your own comments, questions, etc.
I got mine in the mail yesterday. Looks really good to me, despite seeming a little thin. 92 pages total, including covers. My approximate count: 72 pages content, 20 pages ads (15 non-Kalmbach, 5 Kalmbach).
Lots of interesting reading, both model-related and prototype, even things that ordinarily wouldn't attract my attention.
Check out the big layout photo on page 58-59. Front and center are three pieces of rolling stock we wouldn't expect to see in a layout feature in 2018! Three ancient Athearn BB kits: 2 unweathered bb boxcars, led by an ancient Athearn BB "grinder" foobie New Haven SDP40 with the old metal handrails. I loved it!
The structure articles all look good. Cody's abandoned depot looks excellent, and the modern lumberyard does too, except the pavement needs heavier weathering imho. I have seen videos of Tom's Georgia Northeastern on the web, but never bought the MRP issue with his layout.
Even the DCC column was interesting. I'm a DC user, but have always thought it would be feasible to wire two locos together to double the power pickup, and help eliminate dead spots. Larry does it for dcc, but I'd like to see an example of how it's done for dcc. I seem to recall someone wrote a brief MR article years ago about doing this for a pair of small n-scale engines (might have been industrial switchers, but I' m not sure).
I'm eager to read more...
