Refinery lighting

After a fairly long period of limited progress on my HO layout, I am finally making good headway. My next structure project will be the Walthers Refinery kit (The "original" version, not the "New improved version". Not sure if there is any major difference.). There is a very similar refinery right here in town and I have always really liked the way it is lit up at night, and would like to try to capture the look in my structure. I assume fiber optics would be the best way to go. I have never used fiber optics and would appreciate any tips, suggestions etc., particularly those aimed at this refinery kit. I assume that lighting would have to be installed during construction of this kit. Any help welcome. Ron H.
