The newer ones or the older ones? The new ones are UNIQUE. The older ones were either diesel or electric but not both. (Electric have RED strips, diesel have BLACK stripes). LION has the manuals for the electrics. The GE 70 ton is a good platform to start with, I bought two of them the the layout of the LION, but have never put them into service yet. LION is not too particular and will put the yellow/black ones in service with only cosmetic (paint) changes if even that. Their stripes are too narrow, NYCT stripes are more than one foot wide.
But then LION also has some RS-3s that might fit through his tunnels, might use them too. The other locomotives are no-go on the route of the LION.

I haven't, but I have hacked several of the 70-tonners into narrowgauge locos. Find one from the latest run, as B-mann is always improving them. Looks ike the MTA loco is longer than the stock 70-tonner, but should be able to hack what you need from a pair of them . Leaves mre room for a decoder. Don't count on the free decoder they come with. It's going to give you fits, so best to plan n replacing it sooner than later.
I will say you can probably find a better drive/chassis and swap sideframes, etc. They have improved it but the trucks tend to be the weak spot. And that's where I hack them into narrowgauge beasties. All mine are currently deadlined, so just wanted to give you a heads up this has been a weak spot for an otherwise pretty darn good model.

Has anyone kitbashed a deisel to model a GE 45T MTA work deisel? If so what HO deisel would be the best to work use. I was thinking using a GE 70 Ton as a base to go with. I want to model a work train for my subway layout.
