Shock Control ATLANTIC CENTRAL Respectfully, I looked, nice under tree layout. YOU brought up drinking and ADHD, not me........ Neither of which is appropriate for this forum in my view, but I'm not a moderator...... I originally saw your title and knew I should be a reader not a contributor, I was just responding Jim's comment/question...... I'll be quiet now. Sheldon I guess you missed the wink and smile that I posted. I also mentioned Ella and Louis. I guess they are not appropriate for the forum either. ;)

I'm pretty neutral about Ellia and Louis, not the first thing I would reach for in my 1700 album collection, but by no means the last.......
Sorry if I did not take your comments in the light spirt you intended them.
Stop talking about ADHD and look at my holiday train layout! ;)
riogrande5761 The wierd thing about ADHD is doctors prescribe anphetimines to treat them. My wife looks after a couple of ADHD kids and thats what they are given. Seems opposite what you would give a hyper active kid: amphetimine.

As the step parent of an ADD child, now an adult, and married to an ADD/ADHD adult who is a retired addiction/mential healt counselor, let me explain.
Actually, it works like this. Their brains work different, their brains are already "sped up", our world seems like it is in slow motion to them.
BUT, drugs that would be a stimulant for you or me, have a reverse effect on their brain chemistry. Nobody really knows exactly why.
Just like the fact that 80% of seizure disorders have no identified cause, and exactly how drugs like Dilantin work is still mostly speculation.
When ADD or ADHD people use depressants like drinking or weed, they feel better but cannot function very well.
When they take stimulants they feel better and they can function - for the most part.
Some complain the stimulants make them feel "numb" emotionally, but that is because they are accustomed to their emotions being in hyper drive. This is what makes them impulsive....and causes much of their trouble in life........
Some simply learn to adapt, others need the medicine forever........
There is no question in my mind that these problems are real, and genetic. There is an adiction gene and a ADD/ADHD gene. I've seen way too much of it in my life time.
And for these people, alcohol is just as dangerous as any illegal or restricted drug.
I was never more than a very casual social drinker, but my first wife turned into a drunk, like many in her family. I was not enough fun anymore, I would not get drunk with her......
Shortly after she left, I quit drinking completely to set an example for my three children and latter my step children.

Yes, you have to use a hosting site for your pictures so you can post a link to them. There is a thread on how to post pictures at the top of the General Discussion forum. There is some out of date info on the thread so you will have to sort through it a bit to figure out the most recent procedures.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Ha! I'm sure if ADHD had been a commonly recognized disorder when I was kid, I would have been diagnosed with it. Champagne would have done me a lot of good! ;)

Shock Control As I type this on New Year's Day, I am drinking a Mimosas, spinning Ella and Louis, and watching the train. I am taking it down tomorrow, so this is my last day of being a kid for a while.

Sounds like a perfect start to the New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!
And Happy New Year to you.
Looking forward to the pictures.

This year, I did my most extensive HO winter train layout ever. I managed to fit a mid-century modern residential neighborhood, mid-century modern commercial strip, a pine forest, and a small freight yard.
The engine this year was an Athearn B&O F7. On Christmas, I ran a Budd B&O streamlined passenger train. For a party on Friday, I ran a freight using cars with horn hook couplers. Today, I am running a freight using cars with knuckle couplers.
All of my freight cars date from the era of 50-ton trucks and roofwalks on the boxcars.
As I type this on New Year's Day, I am drinking Mimosas, spinning Ella and Louis, and watching the train. I am taking it down tomorrow, so this is my last day of being a kid for a while.
I will post pix at some point.
Happy New Year!
