Help, I'm trying to find some modelling friends.
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 1:59 PM
I've just recently moved to Clinton, IA and I'm trying to find a club or group to join and either operate trains occassionally or build some sort of module to take to shows. I can't beleive I can sit in my office and watch the UP mainline across the field and can't find any modellers. I've just recently joined in these forums and have really enjoyed reading all the posts from everyone.

With all the knowledge that is out there I hope someone might have stumbled across a group that is somewhat local, the Quad cities is only 45 minutes away if anyone knew of a group down there.

Please help, My wife and daughter are tired of having me around every night.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

I can't help, but I can certainly sympathize. I moved from Ft Worth, TX to Sedalia, MO 18 months ago. Ft Worth had numerous clubs plus many modelers to fellwoship with and run trains with. Sedalia has a "club" of a few people from a wide area that meed then the whim hits and do very little. I have had a hard time finding modelers to share the hobby with. I wish you luck in your quest.

Have you tried doing a google search? Or if you can wait until a show arrives in your area, there'll probably be local groups attending. I got lucky in finding my club through a contact at my church.

Good luck with your searching

For the guy in Sedalia, MO: There's a club in Odessa, MO. It used to be located in Blue Springs, hence the name Eastern Jackson County Mainliners, even though they are now in Western Lafayette County. I'm not currently a member, but if you venture into Kansas City as far as Blue Springs stop at Main Line Trains (on Main Street) Louie can tell you who to contact.

I am familiar with Eastern Jackson County Mainliners. They have a modular layout that travel to regional shows. I used to know a guy who was in it when it was in Blue Springs. I didn't realize they were in Odessa now. Blue Springs is a bit far for me, but Odessa might be doable. Thanks for the tip. Do you have any contact info by chance?
Thanks again.

Thanks for the tip I had not looked at Jan shows yet, and thanks to all the people that read my post but knew nothing.[:)]

Hey anytime anyone out there is railfanning the UP I've always got a hot pot of coffee on and a clean bathroom about 1/2 mile off the mainline near the Mississippi bridge in Fulton Illinois.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas.

Well, fellow IOWAN, I am pleased to see you decided to become a Hawkeye (or Cyclone[:)])

I am surprised Clinton doesn't have more being its fairly good size. I can relate though, I personally know maybe two other railroaders! I am about as far across the state from you as is possible, but welcome to Iowa![#welcome]

Go to The World's Greatest Hobby website and do a club search. I just checked and turned up clubs in Morrison and Chadwick, Illinois, pretty close to you. Also clubs in East Moline, Ill, Davenport and Ryan, Iowa.

Try this link:

You can also use the same website to find hobby shops.

Good luck,
