Another option, which may or may not be acceptable to you, is to equip one or two cars as "transition" cars, with a coupler of each type at opposite ends. It's a temporary solution if you want. That way you can use both rapido and knuckle types of cars until you choose to change them all over at a later date, when finances or time is better.

You should be able to replace them with Micro Trains couplers, either truck mounted or body mounted.  They even have a lot of specialized couplers for all sorts of different locomotives.

Hi model railroaders!

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to solve this dilemma I have with my N scale train set. I got this old Bachmann N scale train set as a gift from my mother, being that it's old the cars and locomotive have the old Rapido style couplers. And I've realized that most train manufacturers don't use those couplers anymore. So I was wondering if it was possible to replace the Rapido couplers with some kind of knuckle coupler.
