Thanks for all the replies. Found lots of the M2 size on Amazon and Ebay but as someone pointed out you get a life time supply and I only have 2 of the S-2s to convert. So it off to the hardware store to see what they have.
I've installed decoders in two Atlas S2s and used nylon 2-56 screws in both. The screws threaded in pretty easily. I have taken them out and put them back in with no problem.

I think I'd start looking at my local True Value, or Ace. They have all kinds of fastener stuff in those Hillman cases. Then you could take one the original screws along, and confim the size. Ask and see what they have.
If not, I'd go to Ebay. Lots of them there.

Your in luck, it's not a 2-56, which measures 2.11 mm outside thread diamenter.
The one in my Atlas measures 1.89 mm and 6.25 mm long.
Where can one find less than a lifetime supply of nylon M2 screws in the US?
Tell us more about your conversion, what decoder are you putting in? Sound?

I was hoping for the metric size so I can look for nylon screw of proper size. I know if I jam a 2-56 into the hole something will require its removal and then the darn thing won't come out. Thanks for the info on 2mm M2 thats where i'll start.
Joe Fugate thinks they are 2-56 too.

I have an S2 and I will check mine, but my wife is having sugery in the am so I may not get to it today.
rws1225 I'm putting DCC into some older Atlas Alco S-2 switchers. Need to replace motor mounting screw with nylon screw - anybody know what size metric screw is used? Atlas part number is 807109. Thanks for any info.

I'm pretty sure it's a nylon 2mm screw (M2). Not sure how close that is to a 2-56 screw. I have an Atlas Redbox S-3 that I converted to DCC years ago, and I think the NCE ATLS4 decoder came with a nylon screw in the right size.
Here's a description on another forum: Atlas S2 DCC

Atlas website says they have those in stock at $0.35 each. Even if they say it'll cost you $10 to ship you'll burn through that amount in time and gas searching the county-side looking for the item. And if you call Atlas and speak (nicely) with a rep, maybe they just might pop one in an envelope for you.
All I can find is a picture, and a part number, no size given.
If you have the original screws, hardware stores, back in the screw and bolt dept., have a display board with all different sizes on it, and you can thread in a bolt or screw to get the size.
Unless you can find an alternative way to mount the motor back in.
The TCS webpage says to use a Kadee 2-56 screw
