Anyone used a BLI Quantum decoder equipped loco with a Paragon2? This would be in a non-conssisted setup (ie: one E7 Quantum & 2 E8 Paragon2 all using the same address).
My concern is mainly not wanting to get involved (right now) with speed matching if they are too dissimilar. Just want a plug&play situation. Thought the E7 (CB&Q) would look appropriate mixed with the E8/9. If not, there's a new 3rd P2 E8 I can get for $40 more.
When engines are coupled, they will relatively match in because they are coupled, and when you get to pulling trains that drags on the engine anyways and speed differrences will level in simply on running physics. I trust the BLI engines, and if both engines crawl at speed one, go for it. Aside from that thats why you have speed tables to match engines up.
They just have to be close, not perfect. There's this thinking that with DCC, locos have to run perfectly m,atched at every speed step to work. You didn't (couldn't) do that with DC, yet MUs were common. DCC is NOT any different.
If they are wildly off, both versions support CV2-6-5 for simple adjustment, no need to fiddle with 30 CVs of a speed table.
