It's that time again, Weekend Photo Fun. For those first time posters, WPF is where members show off our projects for the week, or what we do during the weekend. So lets see some good stuff. To Start...here's my most recent Electrical project- 18 LEDS now.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
This week I finished a couple of 'orphan kits' for Boothbay Railway Village. I call them orphans because someone started them, and abandoned the project. The kit was donated to us; but, due to the condition, no one would eve buy it in our fund raising sales.
The N scale Quality Craft warehouse kit got a good start. The builder had stained and cut out the wall sections accurately. None of the strip wood had been stained, so they could not be matched to the walls and the instructions were missing. When I opened the kit all the sheet wood had warped and one wall section had split. I glued strip wood to the sheet backs and let the sheets sit overnight under weights. I spliced the broken wall together and reinforced the joint with strip wood. From there it was a fairly simple assembly. I added windows, acetate glazing and paper window shades. I faded the walls with some Floquil grime ad dry brushed some gray to pop the board & batten detail.
The Plastruct sanding tower was only at the beginning of assembly; most of the parts had been cut to size. This was a case of following the instructions to complete the kit. I found a picture of a sanding tower online and used that as a guide for painting and weathering.
Both models will find their way to our booth at the Springfield show.

Jimmy, The lighting is looking good. Are there plans for some outside lighting around the roundhouse?

Was playing with drone...parts, again. In this case, my new Eachine TX05 FPV camera.
It has selectable power output, covers 72 channels in the 5.8 ghz band, and is about 1" square minus the antenna. Cost is around $25 and I got mine at banggood.com. Hook up power to the tiny connector after you short the video IN and OUT terminals together (used for the OSD, but not here) and you can have wireless video via any 5.8 ghz monitor.
After I put things together, I grabbed a 50' flat and installed the camera on a RR drone, more commonly known as a "loco"
The image is decent, although not HD.

Mike, we used a camera system to take pictures of our club layout a couple of years ago to find some track problems in tunnels etc. Good for projects like that but I don't seen a standard use for such a gimmick.
I managed to finish a couple of cars this week!
First up is an Intermountain 1937 AAR Mod Boxcar Kit, with added Yarmouth Models Metal Sill Steps, then painted with Floquil Jade Green and Scalecoat II Black Paints and lettered with Oddballs decals. The KO&G purchased 3 of these cars in 1952. The KO&G was a bridge line purchased by the MP to connect their Kansas line and Texas Line. The KO&G had a lot of hopper cars but very few boxcars on their roster, was fully absorbed into the MP in the 60's.
Kadee PS 2003 CF Covered Hopper, painted with Scalecoat II Tuscan Red and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was originally built in 1956 and repainted into this scheme in 1961. Mostly used in cement and sand service.

Ha, I'm still looking for the nose door off my PA Pretty sure I've already scoped out what is to be seen, it's gone into the witness protection program or something, based on previous DVR videoing with my SQ11.
These cams need to be still smaller to be really useful for ops. Ironically, for our uses, the very wide FOV that FPV flyers like is actually not that helpful. It shows a lot of unneeded real estate that tends to fisheye, where I'd prefer a nice narrow view of the track ahead and its immediate surroundings. So that's lowhanging fruit and probably some cams out there already can be had if I look around.
I did notice a very useful property that is operationally useful. What I thought were suitably slow speeds look like hot-rodding via the wireless cam. That alone is a very good thing to understand and even be abe to refer to while running.
I'd imagne that someone, somewhere is either working on a stand alone DCC controller with a built-in FPV screen or something that would adapt your cellphone to do the same. The technology for this is all readily available, someone just needs to package it and market the result. There already is an adapter that lets you use your cell for the controller, but powers a better signal than the cell will provide through the standalone transmtter that it attaches to; put the FPV screen on the dongle for easy reference and continue using the cell via JMRI or other means.

Jimmy, Great lighting effects. I found the LEDS are so bright, I had to paint the insideds of my buildings black to keep them from glowing.
George, the warehouse and sanding tower look terrific.
Mike, the engineers perspective is really neat. Have you thought about building a mockup of a cab interior to put over it?

Its been a long time since I've posted anything. Here is a car that I just finished...an Accurail wood side car that I added a 1/2 door to each side using the kit from The Standard Car Company. Accurail stirrup steps from their underframe detailing kit, Kato trucks, and some paint touch up along with some light weathering.

I do not have anything to add to Weekend Photo Fun this week. I have been in Atlanta all week for meetings. I am halfway back home now. I left just before I got caught in the winter storm. Thank heavens. Winter and Kevin do not mix well.

The N scale SGRR boxcar is now at home on the store layout at Riverdale Hobbies.
Jimmy: The LEDs look like they are making for a great night scene.
George: The orphaned models look like they really need to be svaed. I have a few models I rescued from old layouts that I intend to resurect for my next layout.
Mike: The video project is good. I will want a run through on my layout when it is complete. Hopefully in the next ten years it is all perfect.
Rick: I love the KO&G car. Is that the as-delivered shceme in 1952?
Garry: The town of Blackhawk is impressive.
Chuck: The boxcar modification is very well done. It looks great.
Hopefully I will have something next week.

Kevin, AFAIK that is the original paint scheme on that car, they also had some cars painted with silver and black as such:

A couple of recent additions to the BRVRR. A pair of Proto E7s purchased at a recent train show. I intend to install Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders and change the livery to the NYC Cigar Band passenger scheme sometime this winter. Time allowing.

Chuck, Nice boxcar, and the subtle weathering is a fine example of "less is more."
Pulling one out of the re-run bag. Chasing light leaks and finding ways to screen and tone down the LED glare can be a challenge, but it's all part of the fun.

New Hope and Ivyland 40 is finished. One of those, never really thought I'd have one type of projects. I did the decals for the way it looked in the early 90s when my father lead the rebuild project with the head of the Strasburg railroad. A locomotive very much dedicated to him.
