Thanks for the replies.  What is the best way to remove original road names and numbers from Lionel/MTH/Kline engines from the mid 2000s?  Trying to not have to do a total repaint of the engine and tender before applying new decals.

The Missouri Pacific historical society carries decals in their store. They have an HO passenger set that has the full Missouri Pacific Lines on it that I think would be close to O for the steam tender lettering.

My advice, if you're working in O scale, is to sign up for the O Scale Yard Sale.  It's free--and very handy for those of us who model in 1/4" scale, as we're all in the same boat, so to speak.  You can buy stuff, sell stuff and, what's really helpful: you can post "Want to Buy" ads.  I've picked up a bunch of decals that way.  (I've also found decals on eBay, which is a lot more chancy.)  Good luck!

All of my O sets I had left were MKT. Also the lettering for Missouri Pacific Lines is not on the sheet I have from Oddballs. They are though about 4 MLs wide. He did do a seperate set for the roadname and small subidiary roads initials that went up in the corners of passenger cars.

The Champ set won't help either because its for the Eagles. I have not seen a Steam set on Ebay in a long time. All lettering was in silver.

Who makes Mopac decals for steam engines? Wanting to redo some older steam locos . It seems Microscale does not. Thanks.

I'm guessing that the Missouri Pacific lettering was white, and from the photos I've seen, alphabet and numeral decal sheets from Microscale or the same in dry transfers from Woodland Scenics, in appropriate sizes, should do all of the major lettering.  For tender capacities and other small lettering, a decal set for any steam locomotive, in the same colour and font, should finish the job.

All of my steam locomotives (and diesels, when I still ran them), along with a sizeable fleet of passenger equipment was lettered using alphabet sets - dry transfers and decals.
For just the locos and passenger cars, that's about 170 items lettered (both sides, of course) using alphabet and numeral sets, mostly with
ELORA GORGE & EASTERN spelled-out fully, along with numbers and car names done in the same manner.

Using masking tape and/or a set of dividers to determine and lay-out  lettering placement, it's not really all that difficult, albeit time-consuming.

Oddballs has been out of business for a while now. Despite his website still up he has had some issues. If you do a google search a lot will come up about the issue.

You might can use his HO passenger set for the tender lettering it does come up from time to time on Ebay. The Missouri Pacific Lines in silver might be close enough to O for the tender top sides. For numbers I would use the Woodland Scenic dry transfers they do come in silver. Now that I am thinking about it I do have a set of the  Oddball HO passenger sets at home I can check what all is on it and the size. I also know I have some O scale champ sets I will look through and see what I have. Bought them back when I did O for the MKT years ago.

For O scale, try Oddballs Decals: http://mopac1.tripod.com/oddballs3.htm#MP

Champ and perhaps Walthers and others had them in the past, but they're all NOS now where available so may need some special care in handling.
