The made whole US prototype train sets, actually. And don't forget the Trix Big Boy, maybe the first one with sound? It was a really old Loksound decoder. They made a few other US locos as well.

Wow, who knew! Like I've said before, even a blind squirel finds a nut once in a while.
I honestly didn't know Marklin or Trix, made "American" looking cars, but, then again, I have to look up Trix, and see what they are about. Heard of the name, Trix, just don't know anything about them.
I have a car I'll have to dig out, and take pictures, but if anyone following this wants to jump in line, go ahead!
Mike.

Mike, I'm going to call you the winner on this one-- Marklin made the three-rail HO version of this car from the same tooling at the same time.
The version I have was sold as a two-rail HO car under the Trix name, and Marklin and Trix are under the same corporate umbrella.
Your turn!
-Fritz Milhaupt, Publications Editor, Pere Marquette Historical Society, Inc.http://www.pmhistsoc.org
Boy, the only 3 rail HO I know of is Marklin, and I don't think it's a Marklin car. At first I misread the 3 rail part, and was going to guess MTH, but then I reread your hint, and seen 3 rail HO.
Don't know.

The chief reason I'd say IHC was the importer is because AHM didn't import that version of the Vanderbilt tender. It is the version that IHC and Mehano started using when they got use of the tooling that Pemco (the answer to my Bonus Question) previously used. The tender, with its signature square coal bunker, was first tooled up for Pemco's 4-8-2.
There's an interesting article on the history of AHM and IHC in the newest issue of HO Collector magazine.
I have a few pieces in my collection that are real stinkers to identify, but let's keep this fun.
It's plastic and entirely "stock", as delivered by its manufacturer.
Who Made It?
My first guess would be same as Fritz. But if not that, AHM? I still go with Mehano as the manufacturer. I seem to recall AHM having some Mehano stuff for a short time, late in their game along with or possibly after Rivarossi. Correct me if I'm off on that. Dan
fmilhauptIHC, built for them by Mehano, I believe.
Yup! Mehano.
It is a smooth running and quiet locomotive. It compares to the Athearn RTR, and Atlas. Seriously thinking of putting a decoder in it.
It will run continuously on my Christmas train layout for hours.
mbinsewiSo, do I divulge the answer now, or does this go until someone gets it right ? Mike.
I thought we could give it 24 hrs, however, it is up to you Mike. There seems to be a fair number of views and no ones come up with the answer, so call it if you want.
Edit; maybe Fritz got it right if so he gets first crack at the next pic.

IHC, built for them by Mehano, I believe.
For bonus points, which company first marketed that version of the Vanderbilt tender tooling on a model?
last mountain & eastern hogger MIKE. I know, I know It's Union Pacific. and thats with my glasses off. Ha Ha.Smile, Wink & Grin
It's a wonder you can even read that as blurry as my photos are !
And NOPE, not a Con Cor.
So, do I divulge the answer now, or does this go until someone gets it right ?
It wasn't a train forum I got the idea from. It was an industry forum where I had to use my real name to sign in, though I have yet to participate. I guess the game is on more forums than that one. I hope the others don't mind I "stole" their idea. I guess we'll hear about it if they do.
BATMAN Okay, so here is a little game I saw on some obscure forum a while back. You post a pic of something either produced by a manufacturer or yourself and people have to guess who made it. ...

I'm a member of that forum, and don't think of it as obscure. It's populated with great people who have a boat load of knowledge about HO trains. I learn something new there every visit. Evidently, you like it too.
Modeling the Baltimore waterfront in HO scale
MIKE. I know, I know It's Union Pacific. and thats with my glasses off. Ha Ha.
Ok, my official guess is Con Cor.

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
Well, I clicked on your picture, enlarged it as much as possible, and when I noticed the metal wheels, along with the railings, I decided it was Atlas. I think Atlas makes some nice looking tank cars.
OK, I'll try this. My pictures are way to blurry, but this is one of two steam engines that I have. Who's name is on it?
Sorry about the picture quality.
mbinsewi I'll go with Atlas. Mike.
I'll go with Atlas.
A most knowledgeable modeler. Yes, it is Atlas. I have all six road #s. I got four of them relatively quick and then the fifth one at a tiny Hobby shop in a little town that had perhaps ten MRR related items. The sixth one I found at a train show buried under a ton of new stock under a table. All were new in the box and I paid from $18.00 to $36.00 full retail IIRC.
I am surprised it took so long, I thought I was offering up an easy peasy one.
Go ahead Mike and post something, if not we can let someone else have a go.
They also owned BApco (British American Paint Company) I plan to have one of these on my layout when I get that far.
We still need the manufacturer of the tanker.
hon30critter BATMAN what does the B/A stand for? British/American? Dave
BATMAN what does the B/A stand for?
British/American?
Dave
British-American had a long convoluted history with Gulf Oil.
1946 Gulf owned 20% of B/A.
1956 B/A acquired Canadian Gulf Oil Company.
1969 B/A renamed Gulf Oil Canada Ltd and rebranded with Gulf signs.
1978 company renamed Gulf Canada Ltd.
Later there were additional realinements and name changes
2001 company acquired by Conoco and became Phillips 66 Canada
Information from several sources but mainly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Canada
I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
I don't have a leg to stand on.
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I see lots of tank cars.
I have every # the manufacturer made of this propane tanker. Who made it.
What oil company absorbed B/A Oil and what does the B/A stand for?
Well here in Louisiana we celebrate Thanksgiving with alligators not turkeys!
Just kidding we had a fried turkey at my house.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
I suggest we give it 24 hrs to guess what something is. After that, if no one has guessed, someone can post something new.
Surely someone has a MRR turkey they can throw into the mix.
Yes it's John Allen's Gorre and Daphetid.
Who built this model railroad?
Cox?
