I will check all of that out next time I get on the computer. (I'm on the iPad now).

I posted a help link for desktops.

Here's the one for I-pads:

Good luck, Ed

RobertSchuknecht

I have created a separate Facebook page for the purpose of hosting pictures.

Robert, my wife created a facebook page for my trains. Can you explain how to upload photos stored in my computer and then share to to the forum?

 I would be very grateful!!

Yes, when you first go to Imgur, it shows stuff posted by others,

when you get to your album, create a bookmark for it in the browser of your choice

Hi, UP

You can choose to ignore the "Flickr Uploader" This is an automatic application that uploads every file that you place in the selected folders.

Rather, open your Flickr "You" page and look for the cloud/arrow icon (upper right)

 MR_upload1 by Edmund, on Flickr

Once you click that a new dialog will open, click on the blue band and it will open a window where you can select which photos you want to upload. You can use the usual "mutiple-select" options as you normally would when selecting files.

 MR_upload2B by Edmund, on Flickr

Then when you click "Open" you will get a new Flickr window where you can choose options for each photo. By default they upload as Public. You can change the "permissions" to make them private or there's options for sharing so only family or friends can view photos. For M-R posting the photo has to be public.

I also make a folder which will help organize photos as your collection gets bigger.

There are some pointers for uploading and organizing here:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr-for-desktop

Hope that helps,

Regards, Ed

I. Have Dropbox and have posted links in the forum (per Mr. Otte's instructions), but the pictures are not visible.  Nor do I see any buttons or anything in settings that says make visible, or the equivalent thereof.  So I am not sure what will correct the problem.

Then I got a Flickr acct and it prompted me to upload photos, which I selected one and now I can't find any thing that says upload more.

Both of these sites prompted to access all photos, which I do not want.  I only want to load one or two at a time solely to post on the forum.

If anyone has some solutions, I'm all ears!

Yes, when you first go to Imgur, it shows stuff posted by others, and you click on your name/profile to go to yours.  I doesn't bother me.  There may be a way to go directly to your album but I havn't bothered to figure out how.

It should be that you go to your own gallery, which surely exists once you begin to post image files to imgur, and then make that page, your gallery's main page, a favourite or sticky which you keep in your 'Model Trains' list of favourites.  At least, that's the way I have done it for railimages and PB.  I make a category in my list of favourites to help organize them...since I have maybe 100 or more.  I click on 'forums' or "trains", or whatever, and a small drop down list appears.  In my case, my photo albums is included for ease of navigation when I wish to post a link to my hosted images on a forum.

Sorry

When I went to Imgur I got a whole page of thumb nail pictures such as burning man event, costumed people and etc.

I'm not good with the computer, it will take me a while.

Wow

Imgur Is weird.  Blindfold

Not sure why you say that.  You have the option to create Albums.  In your album, when you hover your mouse over the pic, you see a downward pointing arrow.  Clicking on that arrow leads you to Get Share Links.  Pick BB Code and hit Control C.  Paste that directly in the forum using Control V

Once you post, the pic will appear.  If you use the copy link, it does not end in *.jpg and the pic will never appear in your post, only the link

Your own web site. Then you are free from the whims of some specialty photo hosting provider. If you also register your own domain name, you will be protected against one provider going belly up and can move you content without messing up any of the previously posted pictures since the URL will alwyas remain the same. Unless you want to actually create a web site in addition to just hosting your pictures, it's actually quite easy to do.

Dunno which is best, read consumer reports?  Cnet? for official word.

Here it's like yahoo reviews, YMMV.

We all say what we use and then you choose!  I switched to imgur randomly - works tons better than photo awful bucket.

I had set up a Flickr account some years ago for off-site image storage. I've been using it to post photos here more frequently since P-B made their famous "change in user agreement".

I always have MalwareBytes running and it blocks any photos coming from imgbb so, for me anyway, the photos don't show up in any of the replies I see here. I get a PUP warning instead.

The added file and link info that Flickr attaches to a third-party attachment is supposed to stay with the photo per Flickr's user agreement.

Good Luck, Ed

I also use Imgur, since @#*!! photobucket went bad, the same way.

Store your images in your own memory, with stick backup, it's the only way to be sure!

After PB, I tired imgur, imgbb and Flickr.  I chose Flickr after experimenting but do not recall the details.

If you want to experiment, the Forum hosts prefer we do so on the cs.trains.com (not MR) forum "Forum Testing".  There you can post trial photos to your heart's content without interrupting a thread discussion.

I also use Imgur.....but I don't use it as a storage....only photos I want to 3rd party host, everything thing else is stored on My hard drive, which has a large memory.

I like it better than Photobucket.

I prefer Imgur, but Flickr is useable.  Flickr does add extra stuff that you may want to prune out like the title of the pic and your name.

No experience with https://imgbb.com/ but some people are using it.

I've been using RailImages.com for years, which is also free, and it's been great.  I think the "free" upload limit is now 50MB, total.  If you need more space than that then there's a nominal monthly fee you can pay.  I can't seem to verify that though.

I have a Google Blog (Blogger) and I created a page for my pictures.  I can post from my blog or the picture page.  I tried Google Photo and it only works for users that have a Google Account, Blogger works for everybody.

Best photo hosting site?
Posted by yankee flyer on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 12:53 PM

Hi All.

I deleted my Photobucket account and have not set up anything new. Has there there been a consensus on what is the best one to use?

Because of health problems I have not had the energy to do very much but observe.

Thanks for any help.
